When I saw they were coming out with a new sports car, the 818, I was hooked: the price was right and the performance and looks were very appealing. So on my birthday in 2013 I put down a deposit. I was #172 and waited 15 months to get my kit. While I waited, I purchased a 2006 WRX with 27,741 miles from a COPART insurance auction in Pennsylvania. I then began the disassembly process, labeling and securing all the parts needed for the build. It was like an adult Erector set. New and replacement parts were also purchased as needed. All Factory Five builders are fortunate to have a comprehensive 500-page build manual, as well as a very active build forum to help with any problems that may arise. The information and ideas from other builders was truly inspiring and a great source of encouragement during my 2-1/2 years build time. The reason for selling the car is twofold. Firstly, after my heart bypass operation, I seem to have sadly lost interest. My get up and go got up and went. Secondly, as time passes by, t he simple truth is that I have lost the driving skills needed for a car of this power and weight. At 76, I can never hope to recapture the ability of my youth. I also have a 20 foot Diamond enclosed car trailer custom built to my specs in 2017 which I will sell after the 818 is sold.
I can deliver the car anywhere within 500 miles of Norfolk, Virginia, but that is as far as I can go. Buyers farther afield will need to make their own delivery arrangements. Anyone with serious inquiries is welcome to call o wner/ builder Roger Munz at 757-636-7777.
