2008 Hummer H2 Duramax Safari Premier Limited Edition
I waited 3 years to find a truck as the foundation worth the money needed to be spent for a proper Diesel conversion and restoration to a like new condition. .and believe when I tell you. .it does not get closer to new than this truck.
GM at AM General should have build them this way and they would still be selling them all over the world. .What a missed opportunity. .
I wanted a rust free truck so I monitored Craigs lists in Arizona, Texas, Nevada, California and New Mexico.
Finally found this OEM Limited Edition Safari that has factory black wheels, grille, mirrors, trim, badges, lights etc in Dallas Texas. Discussed with the owner ( 2 owner vehicle) and flew to Dallas to get it. Drove it home and then a few weeks later I was on the phone with Mike Mash at Mash Motors in Wichita KS.
I knew what to expect from the conversion process as I did a 2003 with an LBZ back in 2009 but nothing prepared me for the amazing and fuel efficient LML with EFI Live, proper intake, exhaust, mods and neck breaking 600hp on level 5. . .WOW !
For the 08 and 09, the choices are LMM and LML for the conversion. The LML is far superior and I found a complete drivetrain from a 2012 built/2013 service GMC Sierra Heavy Duty rollover that had 33k miles ( pictures in the Google photos album- ask for link). It took some convincing to let me have it as it has been removed from the truck and was preserved for his own conversion at the right time. . I paid a premium but I am glad I put in a very low mileage drivetrain.
I had the shop put all new body mounts, new wheel bearings, tierods, shocks and bushings all the way around now that the chassis was un-married, new bushings for front Differential (ordered from Egypt) , new Rancho series 9000 steering stabilizer with custom bracket, Rancho adjustable shocks front and rear, full fluids service- and I mean everything, engine, tranny, differentials - ALL.
EFI Live with 5 stages on HP and torque increase- Level 1 adds 70 hp and Level 5 200 hp and gobs of torque. . Had him sandblast and paint the body and I just had Ziebart do a full undercoating. .see pictures in the album.
Added the AirDog II Diesel Preporetor lift pump (rear about it, amazing technology, $1200 installed alone), ordered fiberglass custom front bumper extensions, installed the best LED headlights money can buy, LED with Halo daylight drive lights, 37x12" tires on OEM rims, front windows tint, full LED marker lights upgrade, Insight EDGE engine monitor, Rosen Nav/DVD/Bluetooth/ RSE head unit and so much more.
I have the 3rd seat in storage (black), I kept the rear tire carrier with the spare and it comes with the truck- I just like better this look without the spare in the back. Have the rear headphones and somewhere there is the DVD remote, I will try to find it. The Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) works very well with the Rosen head unit and the BOSE Center Stage Lux series sound system in this truck is something that gives be chills when I turn it on every time - amazing sound quality.
New Weathertech custom floor liners for front rear and cargo, AMP Electric running boards with new motors installed 2 years ago, new TPMS sensors. Tires have 6k miles on them.
There were about 2700 H2"s made in 2008 and only 210 with the limited Brick interior. In 2009 only 620 H2"s were made all together and that was it. These vehicles in good condition are very hard to find, in this condition, impossible unless you did what I did. . these are rare trucks with this interior, only 14 were made with the Safari OEM special blackout package.
The original complete drivetrain with the LS3 engine and 6 speed transmission ended up at a company in Butte IA that is converting a 1968 Camaro with my old drivetrain, full resto-mod and the car will be auctioned in June 2020 to benefit the Riley Hospital for Children.
The standard cost of a conversion without the extras I wanted, runs between 32 to 37k depending on what drivetrain is found. I paid a premium for this one. I wanted Mike to give me back a like new truck and I ended up spending spent a LOT. . not to mention shipping cost both ways at $900 a piece, drivetrain shipping etc. The only flaw I did not have a chance to address is a scratch on the driver side behind the rear door, hardly seen in the picture. I am working on addressing it . .really don"t want to ruin the OEM paint. Thios truck has never been in an accident and is like new now.
I love this truck and if I did not have some chemo medical bills that I was surprised by the insurance were not covered, I would not be selling this amazing machine. It breaks my heart to sell it after all this wait. . I drove it this summer and enjoyed for a while, all good, compliments everywhere I stop. .a truly remarkable and special Hummer H2 limited edition and Diesel
