“Recent divorce forces quick sale of this great Civic. All it needs to hit the road is a starter. It is not perfect but it is a great, reliable vehicle. 100% dealer maintained it's whole life!! Always garaged, and CLEAN. My ex wife drove like a GRANDMA in the slow lane. I would keep it if I could but our agreement is that the car goes and she receives proceeds. Please also check my feedback and trust I am a long time Ebayer who believes in transparency and a good old fashioned honest AUCTION! Vehicle description
I am the 3rd or 4th owner and bought it for my ex- wife who was new to the US and drove this car like a real grandma (slow lane, 60mph). The car is 100% dealer maintained it"s whole life as that"s what previous owner did and recommended. It is clean inside- was not smoked in and has very minor if any stains anywhere. I have always taken the car in for the scheduled service and always done everything recommended until very recently when personal finances turned sharply south. This includes all standard service both routine and major. I Have all records (see pics). It"s not a perfect car, but for the money you"re likely to drop picking this up, I doubt you"ll find a better deal!
In the spirit of full transparency, I will first tell you what is wrong with the car:
1. The car was lightly rear ended by a texting teen in a Jeep about 5 weeks ago (see pic). Besides the dent, the only real damage is the left rear brake cover has a small crack in it. The light works fine. The new owner can just buy some of that red tape from an auto parts store and call it good. The trunk functions 100% normally- it latches and unlatches normally, and the seal is fine.
2. After the car was rear ended, the starter died. We knew it was coming as it was struggling to turn over for a while. I know it"s ONLY the starter because I paid Honda Walnut Creek $84 to diagnose the problem (see pics). I have called around for estimates for replacement and they range from $675-800 (Midas was cheapest). The reason it"s so expensive is that the location of the starter makes the job somewhat of a pain in the arse (unless you"re a mechanic! in this case, you can just buy the starter and put it in yourself). As I indicated earlier in ad, I will use my AAA membership to tow car to shop (or wherever you want within my AAA membership range) as a good faith gesture. I will guarantee the car will fire right up and you"ll be driving down the road with a good, reliable vehicle once it"s fixed but I WILL NOT GUARANTEE ANYTHING IF YOU DECIDE TO DO THE REPAIR YOURSELF . I will only guarantee operability if it"s done by a shop.
3. The (left?) rear electromechanical door lock is inoperative. In other words, the pushbutton key (as well as the one on door inside panel) will not automatically lock or unlock this one door. This has never bothered us as the normal lock works just fine; you just have to use it. The door locks and unlocks fine, just not electronically.
4. There is a very small chip in the windshield, probably from a big rig kicking up rocks. It"s not a big deal and I"d say it"s unlikely to spread.
5. There are some "car wash" scratches on paint from my being dumb trying to use the scrubber side of a sponge to clean car. But overall, the body doesn"t look bad for a 12 year old.
6. When you turn the wheel full deflection, you get the little clicking sound sometimes. These parts wear out over time, I guess. It never bothered me and the dealer told me it"s not safety related but an optional fix. I didn"t fix it because 99% of the time while driving one never turns full deflection on the wheel, so. .
That"s pretty much it. I can"t think of anything else I know of.
Now, the brief summary of the good stuff!
Everything works great besides aforementioned stuff. There is an aftermarket Kenwood stereo which was professionally installed before I bought it. It has a remote control and a lot of features but I honestly don"t even know how to use it. Maybe you do? It has a CD Player. My wife played her iPod through a cord which is connected to stereo. AC blows cold. All lights working, steering is tight, brakes are great, tires show lots of tread remaining. Really, just replace the starter and. . off you go!
Here"s a summary of most recent work:
2/20/19 Transmission fluid flush, oil change and filter, fluid top off, safety check, rotate tires. 10/28/17 Ignition could replaced (this is apparently a relatively common fail in Civics and it was expensive). New Battery (still holds great charge). 4/27/17 New front brakes and rotors machined.
As I mentioned earlier, whenever the electronic code thingy in the car told me to get it serviced, I always took it in. All basic maintenence has been done with the exception of very recently. In my opinion, this car will drive for dozens of thousands of miles happily. It will need some love, like fuel filters, fluids, etc. but it is a GOOD CAR!
There are 2 more things you must know:
I was driving the car exactly 5 years ago and it overheated. It turns out the engine block was leaking coolant. Well, Honda replaced the engine block free of charge! Apparently, it was covered by warranty. So, the car has a relatively new low block.
The last thing you need to know is that this is vehicle runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Here is the 411 on CNG:
1. It is a little cheaper than gas: it costs 15 bucks to fill up. A full tank will get you 200-230 miles, depending on how you drive. 2. It is extremely clean burning and emits basically zero transmissions. You will not have any problems passing smog, and you"re helping promote good air quality by driving a CNG car. 3. CNG is available all over California, but it is not nearly as abundant as gasoline! Please do your research so you know where you can fill up. If you live or work near a station, it works out great. If you have to drive 20 miles OUT OF YOUR WAY to get to a fueling station, don"t buy this car! 4. You CAN drive to Tahoe, or even LA (I have done BOTH). The LA trip, however, would require a PGE card (PGE only allows access to their pumps with card) as there are not enough public stations down I-5. If you want the PGE card, it"s very simple, but they require and inspection of the tank and fuel system. If I remember correctly, it"s a couple hundred bucks. To be honest, this car is best suited as a local COMMUTER. 5. I own 2 CNG vehicles (the other is an 06 Honda like this one!) and can testify that in my 8 years as a proud owner, I have really loved owning these cars. Trillium pumps are great (San Ramon, Concord, Berkeley, SJC Airport, etc) and are very reliable. 6. The white carpool stickers on the car are expired, so you will not have single occupancy carpool lane access (well, not legally, anyway ;)
That"s really it. I"ll end with a pitch: I am starting off with a ridiculously low bid to encourage bidding. The car will go to the lucky highest bidder! The bluebook value for this car is probably 3.5K, in my honest opinion. It would"ve been 3.9 or 4 before it got bumped from behind, because it has been babied it"s whole life. Remember you will have to put a starter in it. This all said, you can probably snatch this car for far less than the value of the parts alone, I"m guessing. I realize it"s weird to buy a car that you can"t drive away (thus, the price). I simply don"t have the cash to fix it and already have committed to selling it to pay off my wife.
Any questions, please ask. You are welcome to come see the car but only by this Thursday 5/2 as I work in LA and the car goes in the garage when I leave very early Friday. I will return to deliver vehicle to buyer late afternoon on 5/8 and I will be available all day on 5/9 as well. We can make arrangements for you to pick up car after these dates, but I will not be here, which means I will not be able to tow vehicle. Cash or cashier"s check or PayPal ONLY! !
Thanks and good luck!
