Vehicle description
This 2006 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U500 is one of a small number of North American-market examples that were distributed through Freightliner dealers between 2002 and 2007. Estimates are arounf 180 trucks. This example was originally delivered to Colorado where it was used by a government agency until recently. The single cab body is finished in the extremely rare Tourmaline Green Metallic over multi-colored cloth upholstery. I have yet to find another U500 in this color. Power is provided by a 6.4-liter turbodiesel inline-six mated to an eight-speed pre-selector manual transmission with the very rare EAS, or automatic mode, a selectable transfer case, and portal axles. For auto matic mode, just fold the clutch in, hit auto mode, and the truck drives with fully automatic shifting. Equipment includes a three-way tilting bed, 20″ wheels, front and rear hydraulic and pneumatic hookups, a stainless steel fuel tank, ISRI Isrinhausen air seats, and a Kenwood stereo system. The single cab body is mounted on hydraulic rams allowing access to the engine and is finished Tourmaline Green Metallic (6269). Equipment includes a three-way dump box that was powder coated black, a single polished fuel tank, a stacked exhaust pipe, LED taillights, and a selection of functional front and rear hydraulic and pneumatic hookups. The wheels measure 20″ in diameter with Michelin X tires measure 395/85 and are in fantastic shape. The single cab features two factory ISRI Isrinhausen air seats with multi-colored cloth upholstery as well as black rubber floor coverings. The semi-floating center console houses controls for the triple locking differentials, range selectors, cutoffs, pneumatic emergency brake, power windows, and a modified joystick controller for the hydraulics. A single-DIN Kenwood stereo is installed overhead. The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a 75-mph speedometer, a 3k-rpm tachometer, a quartet of auxiliary gauges, and a pair of digital displays for other vehicle functions. Approximately 51k miles are shown on the digital odometer. The 6.4-liter OM906LA turbodiesel inline-six produced 260 horsepower at 2,200 rpm when new, with 700 lb-ft of torque available from 1,200-1,600 rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an automated pre-selector manual transmission, a two-speed transfer case, and portal axles. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage. This truck was incredibly well maintained, no error light on the dash, fully working bed hydraulics, fully working EAS and drives better than most all U500 I have driven, which is quite a few. Paired with the super rare color, she is incredible. The Mercedes drivetrain is easily serviceable made to be reliable in the worst of conditions. These continue to go up in value every day and are the last of an era for Mercedes! Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
