Vehicle description
I’ve owned this car for about 3 years now, I bought it stock from the original owner in southern VA, he was a doctor, paid over $200k for it new. I wanted to build a half or full mile drag race car to compete in the 4 door class (not a ton of fast cars that are not teslas with 4 doors). Lets just say I was successful in my theory hah. Almost bone stock it won 5 th place at the wannagofast race in NC. It has won the import contest at the local 1/8 th mile track twice. It is mildly fast for a big heavy car. Price is $25,000 keep reading if you’re still interested. Here is the gist of why this works. It is a hand assembled (I still have the carbon fiber engine cover with the signature from the engine builder) fully forged 6.0L V12 Twin Turbo that comes from the factory with 604hp and 738 ft-lbs tq. Hooked up to the strongest automatic transmission I’ve ever seen in a production car prior to the last couple years. Same basic transmission they used behind the hellcat cars, this is the strongest version of the Mercedes 722.6 transmission you can get, stronger than the S55 AMG version etc…. On top of that the rear differential is unique to this car as are the axle shafts and drive shaft. The rear suspension has a unique wheel offset because they had to move the control arms out to fit the larger CV axles and differential. Which makes buying aftermarket wheels for it really tough (i.e. custom forged wheels) which is why it has different wheels on the back vs the front. The front wheels are just off the shelf, the back wheels are $3,000 custom pieces. Mercedes in their infinite wisdom still never put limited slip diffs in these cars, the SL65 AMG had a mild LSD, but these were open diff. With more torque than any diesel engine made back in 2006 that had to be addressed. And of-course the horribly unreliable ABC suspension. It works great when it works, but it rarely works, so that had to go too. Then comes the heat management in the engine bay, because the factory air to water intercoolers just sat on top of the hot valve covers with no heat shields and the whole engine bay is heat soaked pretty much all the time. But have you seen the size of these brakes?!? 8 piston front calipers with like 15+” 2-piece rotors, these rotors are like $800 a piece lol. Anyways on to the stuff that I did to it. · Interchiller system that uses the factory rear A/C evap core to super cool the water for the water/air intercoolers. This shit works awesome, it can drop the intake air temps BELOW ambient temperature which is more than any regular intercooler setup can do. Especially that it does its best work sitting still waiting in line to get on the track while you’re cooling down in the nice A/C luxury of a S-class benz. · Brand new YETI cooler modified into a super awesome interchiller water tank hooked up to 1” insulated coolant hose and a high flow Meziere water pump. · Corbeau race seat with recaro inserts to get rid of the 300lbs front seats (I still have the passenger seat if you want to put it back in). · Nitto NT555R race tires 255/35ZR20 in front 305/30ZR20 in the rear less than 2,000 miles · ACE Alloy 20” front wheels · Aristo custom forged 20” rear wheels · S65 AMG Quaife helical LSD rear differential which is very rare, not easy to install, and not cheap · 21-way adjustable Ceika coilovers with fairly stiff springs adjusted properly (lots of trial and error) to prevent tire squat into the quarter panels. · ABC Delete package (no warning lights) and a brand new hydro/PS pump with the fluid looped through the factory hydraulic fluid cooler to prevent burnout. · All ABC system deleted, ripped out, no lines no extra weight. · All brand new suspension arms and bushings in the front end. · Deleted the stock water heat exchanger for the stock intercooler system for more air flow. · Custom and (super awesome if I might add) 3” air intake system THROUGH the headlights down to the bumper grille openings with Green machine air filters. · Brand new Mercedes coil packs and denso iridium plugs one stage colder (these things have 2x spark plugs per cylinder i.e. 24x friggin plugs NOT CHEAP). The coil packs are like $1000 each they last about 100,000 miles so you’re welcome. · Trans serviced with kit from FCP euro, just filter and fluid, works awesome no issues, bombproof · Black series turbo compressors · EUROCHARGED TCU and ECU tunes with redline raised to 7,000 RPMS (for glorious V12 noises) also not cheap (puts down over 750hp to the wheels god knows how much torque probably more than a cummins 6.7) with stiffer valve springs to accommodate the extra revs. · Heat shield blanketed and gold foil wrapped intercoolers · FULL 3” mandrel bend and quality fabricated dual exhaust out the back, 4” V-Band clamp muffler spot in the middle, I am running a straight delete pipe because it still isn’t that loud at all the turbos muffle the noise a lot and it was too quite with a muffler but you can run one if you want it really quiet. · Scangauge to monitor the IAT, boost pressure (runs north of 20 psi), etc…. · The rotors are OEM Brembo, the pads are EBC red front and back both have less than 2,000 miles on them and I’m telling you if you go to buy a used one of these cars they ALWAYS have a huge lip on the front rotors because you cant machine them being drilled/slotted and people never replace them because they cost a million dollars. So again, you’re welcome. · Fresh oil change with Liqui-Moly 5W-40 full synthetic kit from FCP Euro · Fresh Pentosin blue Mercedes coolant flush · Brand new Nissen Radiator because the original one was cracked · Water wetter additive in the radiator and interchiller water · AMG hood badge & no name spoilers · Recent 4 wheel digital alignment · A/C blows cold heat blows hot! Exterior wise: the paint is great, it has one ding on the trunk otherwise I don’t think it has another ding on it. Never been in a wreck as far as I know, Carfax is clean. No cracks in the glass, everything works, all the lights, wipers, doors, trunk etc…. The rear bumper and front bumper have been painted from where I scuffed them up on a trailer, I had to buff a scratch out of the right rear door, other than that it is clean. The grille was painted black by the previous owner I’m not a huge fan but whatever. Painted to match spoilers, that’s about it, no curb rash on the wheels. Interior wise: Interior smells like a clean benz. I have the other front seat if you want, the rear seat is fine for most people because you have awesome leg room. Everything works, even the old school GPS radio, I don’t think the CD changer works, I have all of the trim for the trunk area and the factory spare/etc… Mechanical wise: It is in great shape. No issues. Runs great, drives great, will smoke 95% of the cars on the road. SOUNDS AWESOME. I mean it is a twin turbo V12 what do you expect. Intake noise is great, exhaust noise is great, I have been trying to get a few GoPro videos but the noise is so loud under full throttle it cannot handle it even with multiple wind socks on the mic. Maybe I just don’t know what I’m doing but I honestly think the GoPro cameras are junk even with a nice external mic. Fires right up every time, the intermediate steering shaft is a little squeaky sometimes but what are you gonna do, it is not a Toyota. Brakes are amazing, what they can do with a 4,600lbs car is nuts. Transmission blows me away every time the fact that it puts this power down stock with so much weight to move, its crazy. Most other automatics would blow apart. The engine is basically invincible. SOHC 3 valve fully forged hand assembled V12, if you don’t know what a V12 sounds like starting it is a very different noise from most engines. So smooth, and the starter motors they put on these could spin over a diesel. And when it comes alive……ooooo. The main reason I built this car was to have something different and you wont come across another like it anywhere around here. Everyone and their sister has a 2JZ or a LSX based project, they ALL SOUND THE SAME, even got tired of rotary engine noises. Not a lot of people build V12’s. But Mercedes are the most cost effective and reliable by a mile. This car has it all and will do it all. You can fit more fun in a 4 door car ????
