Vehicle description
About this vehicle This 2006 Mazda RX-8 is an original. The owner has had it for 2 years. The vehicle runs great and is mainly used for weekend drives. Seller"s Notes feel free to ask any questions. prior owner of 5 years is a personal friend. Exterior 2006 Mazda RX-8 Shinka 6 speed manual. The RX-8 is beautiful, handles like nothing else on the road, and undeniably cool—but there’s a reason that you’ve probably seen advertisements for a dozen 2004 RX-8’s for under $3,000 on their second or even third engines (note these are all undoubtedly the 2004 models with bad engines). Read on to see why this is the one you want and why the other, CHEAPER, 2004 models are a trap, and why this one is worth the ask. The SELLER—there’s a few things to note about who is selling this car. I am not 1) a teenager trying to sell a modified beater, b) a “tuner”, and 3) into listing things numerically. I am however a) a former mazda salesperson (in college) who sold these new, 2) the owner of another, higher mileage 2006 RX-8, c) very knowledgeable about RX-8’s and mechanicals generally with the means to maintain them. In short, I’m the type of person you’d want to buy a used sports car from. The CAR—this is a 2006 RX-8 Shinka edition. It differs from the standard RX8 with unique bushings, an “alcantra style” suede interior, unique wheel finish, and various other cosmetic tweaks. It also comes with the most available interior features standard (except the navigation, which was terrible even in 2006). In short, it will drive essentially the same as any other manual RX-8, but has the best package and the best stock cosmetics. The GOOD: - Excellent mechanical condition and good cosmetic condition. - ALL STOCK!- the only modification is the addition of a subwoofer in the back installed by the previous owner (also a former mazda salesperson, and a personal friend of mine). Note, the original Bose subwoofer is included with the car. - Shinka edition—alcantra interior, bose sound system, unique styling - Well maintained- starts great both cold and hot (bad engines have trouble starting when hot). Compression test results available. - Not abused—this is obvious when driving. - AMAZING TO DRIVE—perfect weight balance, 9,000 RPM redline, and amazing dynamics. Nothing else drives like this. The BAD: - The drivers side automatic door look intermittently fails to operate requiring you to use the key rather than the button. - The sunvisor’s mirror flap spring has disappeared meaning the flap opens when you lower the visor. I clip my garage door opener over the flap so it doesn’t annoy me. The QUIRKS: - This is a rotary engine car… there are quirks! - Premix 2-stroke oil with each fill up. I just keep it in the trunk and add a premeasured amount with each fillup. This is the secret to reliability with these cars. - Change the oil on time. This is necessary for all cars, but its more critical with these cars. Change the oil regularly (with standard, not synthetic), and premix and your car will be reliable. MAINTENANCE under my ownership: - Replaced ignition coils at 50,000 miles. These tend to go bad every 20k-30k miles. - Regular oil changes - Replace battery at 51,000 miles - Replace transmission and differential oil at 52,000 miles - Refinish paint on roof and trunk (it was oxidized and that drove me nuts). I have tons of info and enthusiasm for these wonderful cars. I’m selling this one, affectionally named “Totoro” since I got it for my wife and she literally never drove it. She was afraid of learning to drive stick-shift. I also have 4 coups and now have a child so, it’s time to get rid of some and buy a station wagon. As to why I’m getting rid of this RX-8 and not my other, higher mileage, RX-8, well that’s because the other RX was my mother’s miracle car—we bought it for her when she was diagnosed with cancer, and she lived—so it’s staying in the family for as long as I can turn a wrench!
