Vehicle description
I am selling my my 2006 Infiniti G35X for parts or repair. It has less than 130,000 miles. X model comes fully loaded with AWD, seat warmers, sun roof, 5 inch display that rises up from the center console, reclining back seats, etc. Car was in "very good" condition prior to this incident. Maintenance was kept up perfectly. Fully synthetic oil was changed every 5K, manufacturer recommended every 10K. Differential fluid, Transfer Case oil, Transmission oil all changed early or on-time. High performance K&N engine air filter used. Seafoam used every 5K miles. I was planning to keep this car running for an additional 75K miles at least.
Two weeks ago I had to pull over to the side of the highway after running out of gas. Right half of vehicle was located on the grass. There was dried dead grass on top of some tall uncut grass that caught fire after contacting the catalytic converter/exhaust (it was pretty hot after 100+ miles on the highway). The car itself never caught fire, just the grass underneath the right side of the vehicle. The grass fire was limited to the right side of the vehicle (right half of the vehicle was located on grass, left half was on highway asphalt and spared). Grass fire was extinguished within 5 minutes of starting. Gas tank was empty, the reason why I had to pull over on the side of the highway.
(LAST 2 PHOTOS ARE PHOTOS OF THE ACTUAL INCIDENT. Arrow is pointing to similar dead grass that caught fire under the vehicle). The front right of the car got it the worst because I thought it was a good idea to pop the hood to attempt to extinguish the fire with bottles of water. Increased airflow only caused more damage.
I removed the right headlight (melted/unsalvageable but wiring harness still functional with exception of electrical wiring connecting to windshield wiper fluid reservoir). Windshield wiper fluid reservoir and coolant overflow reservoir both melted/unsalvageable and removed. All these were located on front right side. The front bumper, right side was melted (see pictures). All metal components on front right side were undamaged. When trying to crank the car, it tries to turn over but fuel is not reaching the engine. I propped up the right side and noticed that the fuel pump is pumping fuel into a hole burnt into the plastic fuel line causing a gas puddle near the rear right wheel. I do not have the time or tools to fix this problem.
The following are some of the things that can be sold for parts:
Engine Transmission 4 tires (less than 2 months old with FULL tread) 5 Rims Driver Seat Rear Seats Center Console (upgraded g35x model) w/ GPS (last update was in 2012 maps)
There is FAR MORE (windows, exhaust, rear bumper, etc.) that can be stripped from this car and sold. An alternative would be repairing the vehicle. I am unable to work on the car at all. .don"t have the time, proper tools, or a garage.
