I purchased this vehicle new with every option available in 2005 and drove it for about 5 ½ years. I gifted it to my Mom for her 70 th birthday (she preferred it to a new car) and immediately bought another one, which I similarly sold on ebay two years ago – see feedback. Although my Mom is reluctant to part with the Passat, for her 80 th we moved her up to an Audi Q5 TDI. Note that I am also selling a rare 2014 BMW 328d wagon, which has been my daily driver until recently. Service highlight: At about the 5-year mark in ownership, I was warned by my mechanic at the dealer (who I had known for 20 years at that point) that the 2.0 TDI engines that were originally delivered with chain-driven pumps could be prone to failure, but the VW Europe gear-driven module would be an upgrade that would provide lifetime reliability in that area. I proceeded with his recommended upgrade. It cost a lot; around $2,500 I think, and I’m frustrated that I’ve been unable to locate that receipt. I have no regrets with the upgrade; we’ve never had a single reliability issue with the car. Bodywork: I had a very good relationship with my dealership and received a lot of goodwill service from them over the years. For the year of this vehicle, the VW factory installed felt pads that were found to cause rusting on the inside of the front fenders, and fasteners for the rear windshield that caused the same. in 2011, I noticed light bubbling of the paint in each of these areas. Without question, the dealer had its body shop completely replaced the front fenders and the trunk lid with brand new units that corrected the original issues – all fully under warranty. All of those areas have remained in pristine shape since. Imperfections: · I had a clear 3M protective bra applied to the hood when the car was brand new. It’s hazy at this point and if I were keeping the car, I would have it removed. Unfortunately there is a small dime-sized dent in the area of the hood protected by the bra, caused by a stone or bolt impacted on the highway. · There is a bit of surface rust on the backs of the front seat rails, visible only from the back seat. · Someone touch-parked one of the rear bumper sensors and it is misaligned slightly downward so the system is over-sensitive. Any shop should be able to repair. · The plastic engine cladding and under-engine cladding (both purely cosmetic) were removed on the recommendation of my mechanic. The upper cladding will be provided with the car, but the lower was discarded. Bidding and Payment and Shipping Terms: · I reserve the right to reject any bidders with no feedback that I have not approved to bid in advance (feel free to reach out to me directly if you are new to ebay) and to cancel the auction at any time prior to completion. · $500 USD due within 24 hours of auction end, non-refundable if the deal isn’t completed due to any action or inaction of the buyer · Balance to be paid by direct transfer of US funds no later than 10 days following close of auction. · For U.S. bidders, note that arranging and payment for cross border shipping is at buyer’s expense but I will be happy to accommodate whatever is required on my end to assist the shippers. I have done so in the past for U.S. buyers and the process has gone very smoothly. Currently the border is closed to citizens due to health travel restrictions and it will remain so for the foreseeable future, so there is no chance to drive the car across the border, but it is my understanding that shipping companies are still able to move cars across the border.
