Vehicle description
FOR SALE via 7 day Auction - 2005 Ford Focus ZX3 Hatchback, 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder engine, 5 speed manual transmission. The car is in great overall shape: no body damage or rust, no accidents (see included AutoCheck report). Please read the entire description, especially NOTES #1 and #2 below, prior to bidding.
Here is what has been done to the car to make a reliable runner, which it has been for the past 4 years that I have owned it (until recently; see NOTES below).
The following items have been replaced recently: the water pump, engine belt and idler pulleys. Good tires all around with American Racing cast aluminum wheels on the front, OEM wheels on the rear (see photos). The interior is in decent shape for a car of its age, and the factory stereo was replaced with an Alpine radio CD/USB player mounted in the dash. The catalytic converter was recently replaced with a brand new converter (see NOTE #1 below). The engine has both an oil pan heater and engine block heater installed, which are great to use for fast warmups during cold weather. The spark plugs and coil packs were recently replaced. The car has all maintenance records; which show regular oil and filter changes, and other routine maintenance that has been performed.
The following items are original and are functioning well: fuel pump, clutch, 5 speed manual transmission, as well as all interior and body items. The car is NOT equipped with factory air conditioning (A/C); and the heat, defroster and fan all work well.
The car has always easily passed the rigorous PA Annual State Inspection; and the current inspection sticker is valid until 1/31/2022. It comes with 3 sets of keys, a compact spare tire and jack; as it is a complete car. The windows are crank (NOT power windows), as this is a base model with essentially NO factory options.
Be sure to view the AutoCheck Report that is provided with this listing; which shows a score of 48, which is 11 points ABOVE the upper end of the reported score range for this make and model of automobile.
NOTE #1: The car has been a reliable daily driver until recently, when a problem developed that has affected the engine performance. One day on a recent trip to work, the engine began to lose power, and suddenly had difficulty making it up hills, which had previously not been an issue. I had the car towed to a local mechanic shop, where the father and son mechanic team began work to diagnose the problem. The initial diagnosis was that the catalytic converter was plugged, and needed to be replaced. They bolted on a brand new catalytic converter, which helped dramatically; but did NOT solve the problem entirely with engine power loss under load (for example, while climbing hills).
The mechanic team continued to work on it, further stating that there is still a fuel mixture problem; and that the fuel injection system is "overfueling" and they wanted to continue to work on it. After replacing the catalytic converter and both exhaust oxygen sensors, they began to think it was the barometric sensor (a 65 dollar part, which has NOT yet been replaced).
With the Holidays approaching, it became apparent that they were "baffled", and that they were no longer actively working on it; so at my request, they returned the car to me, recommending that I take it to the local Ford Dealership for further evaluation. The last time I took a different Ford car to this same Ford Dealership, they worked on it for several hours, charged me for several hours of labor, and were unable to properly diagnose or fix the problem. So I decided NOT to go this route again, and instead offer the car For Sale on to someone who can fix it; as I have already acquired another vehicle for daily transportation to work.
The motor starts easily and appears to run well, and achieves the proper operating temperature; at which time the motor begins to lose power, due to the persistent fuel mixture problem.
The car is being sold "AS-IS", with NO WARRANTY of any type, neither expressed nor implied.
Once the fuel mixture problem is solved by you or your mechanic, the car should be a good reliable daily runner, with many miles left in it; due to the fact that the car is in otherwise fine mechanical condition with a solid body and only 115,491 total accumulated miles (there is no significant rust, dents, or body damage on this car).
NOTE #2: Due to the fuel mixture problem described above, the car can NOT be driven from my location to your destination. It will have to be transported by tow dolly, trailer, or tow truck at your expense. The car is registered with a current annual state inspection, but is NOT currently insured for highway driving.
A deposit of $200.00 is due via PayPal within 48 hours of the end of the auction, or your bid will be cancelled.
NOTE #3: If you are the successful bidder on the car, and come to pick it up, and for any reason you are not satisfied with what you are seeing for the final auction price, then I will immediately refund your $200 PayPal deposit at that time. Full payment is due 3 days (72 hours) later (5 days total from the end of the Auction).
If there are any questions regarding this vehicle, please message me via eBay; and I will get back to your as soon as possible.
Good Luck, and Happy Bidding!
