Vehicle description
I inherited mom"s car. I wanted to keep it as I am confident that it will last beyond a quarter million miles easy. Outvoted as spouse wanted hands free bluetooth phone in "18 CRV. In outstanding shape. I have done all the maintenance (ex-submarine mechanic) except the periodic scheduled maintenance up to 37,500 miles which was done at the dealer (see picture). The next major maintenance would be timing belt replacement in 3 more years (max ten year periodicity) and replacing spark plugs at 120,000 miles (not based on time). It is very clean inside and out with only a small dent forward of rear left passenger door handle. Roof rail section has flaking paint on edges on both sides. I will replace all wiper blades from headlights to tail gate. Key fobs have broken springs so the blade does not spring out. It is easily fixed by watching one replace blades and rfid chip on you tube. ebay lists key fob shells for $10.99 Original carpet mats are new and unused condition. Parents had all weather Volvo mats put in on purchase. Buyer can replace those with Husky mats. Interior leather shows no excessive wear or stains. CNN reports used car prices have increased 45% from 6/2020 to 6/2021. Same year volvo sold on cars.com recently for over $12,000 with over 60K miles on it. Car dealers are charging a lot more for used cars. Payment via paypal should keep everything easy. Payment via paypal.
About dad. He was a corpsman that earned the title marine which he was the rest of his life. He served with E company 2nd Batt. 28th Rgt. of the 5th Marine Division and was with the group of marines that ascended Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima which produced the world famous second flag raising picture. I kept the EGA decal on the rear right window that he put on there. He passed in 2011 having had numerous bouts with cancer starting in 2000 when he lost the ability to speak and eat normally. Though he did mention to me that he was in the flag raising outfit when I was a child he never spoke of it. We were in the NEX geedunk at Yokosuka naval base in Japan when he pointed to a black and white picture of the flag raising on the wall and said he was in that outfit. He was present during the first flag raising and I think it is him in the Spearhead book holding the first flag. He is listed in the order of battle with the 27th replacement Rgt. Though he trained on Hawaii big island and was assigned to 2-28/5Mar until he was taken off Iwo. I found this out after he passed by watching the documentary "Shooting Iwo Jima" He is before 1st flag at time 25:00, front left. I also found his picture on MSN during a 70th anniversary of the battle of Iwo Jima display of images. I told my wife it would be neat to see a picture of dad and she looked at the image of three marines receiving communion from a navy chaplain and pointed him out. He is looking at the camera with his hands in his pockets with Ira Hayes (Pima flag raiser) to his right. That date was 3 March and the next day dad was snipered in the head, received last rights but made it off the island. He was a high school teacher and I read about his Iwo experience on a website started by a former student of his. Search for Kessel Narimasu.
I think it would be neat if marines and FMF personnel should start a go fund me page and buy this Volvo for a needy marine family.
