The RX-8 is one of the very few modern cars to be powered by a rotary engine. The 2004 Mazda RX-8 is powered by a Renesis 1.3L two-rotor engine. The rotary engine doesn"t use pistons but rather a rotating triangular rotor. This allows for the revolutions per minute to be much higher than a standard combustion engine. The RX-8 redlines at an insanely high 9,000rpm (and it has been seen to spit flames). The power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission.
With the quad-coupe, the looks of the car are extremely unique. This car is a true import and the looks are a testament to the Japanese import heritage of the car.
The exterior of the car is silver and the interior of the car is red and black leather that is in average condition. This car also has many features that you would expect a modern car to have. These features include a CD player, air conditioning, heated 8-way power driver"s seat, heated passenger seat, power lumbar support, power sunroof, power windows, power locks, a trip computer, and cruise control.
Driving a rotary engine is like nothing else, with the screaming high revolutions it is extremely captivating. The handling of this car is also amazing with the near 50-50 weight distribution. To achieve this Mazda engineers had to mount the engine behind the front axle and the gas tank in front of the rear axle. There is some wear and tear on both exterior and interior. There are some blemishes on the back seats, and drivers side door panel has some scratches (see pictures).
The car needs a new catalytic converter (removed by previous owner for performance reasons), a new drivers side rear door handle spring, new drivers side visor, and the brake light assemblies have some condensation/moisture within them (see photos).
