Vehicle description
THE FERRARI 360 is one of Ferrari’s most successful models. In order to surpass the outstanding F355, its successor would have to be designed from the ground up rather than offer mere incremental improvements. By starting with a clean sheet of paper in designing the 360, Ferrari and its partner Pininfarina succeeded in doing just that. The all new car has timeless lines that put its illustrious predecessor in the shade. Just about the only item carried over from the F355 was its glorious V8 engine, which was enlarged from 3.5 to 3.6 liters for the new 360 and producing 400bhp. Mounted longitudinally behind the engine, is the 6 speed gear box that is controlled by this cars manual and very rare gated shifter. The most striking break with Ferrari tradition being the body’s frontal treatment: gone was the omnipresent oval grille, replaced by two separate intakes set low into the front wings. There was further innovation beneath the skin: a lighter, stiffer aluminum space-frame/monocoque replacing the old tubular steel arrangement, resulting in a dry weight around 220lbs less than that of the F355. With its spaceframe structure, the 360 was intentionally designed to be offered in open form. This convertible 360 represents Ferrari’s 20th road going Spider. In building the 360 Spider much was learned from its predecessor and the rather cumbersome and not always effective top mechanism was replaced with a far more efficient and workable system. 2001 FERRARI 360 SPIDER VIN.ZFFYT53A011012668, 3,586cc DOHC 40-Valve V8 Engine Electronic Fuel Injection 400bhp at 8,500rpm 6-Speed Gated Manual Transmission 4-Wheel Independent Suspension 4-Wheel Disc Brakes. This splendid Ferrari 360 Spider was properly specified with a delightful gated 6-speed manual as the majority of the spiders were ordered with the F1 option. Beginning life in the state of New York State, the spider would remain on the east coast. A second owner would be found in Miami 2005, and then I would take the car in 2013 in Sarasota Florida. To date, this 360 has traveled just 17,000 odd miles and presents in excellent condition. The body is straight with the paint remaining in excellent condition, and the interior shows only minimal signs of wear. Seeing as manual Ferrari"s are no longer offered, this 360 presents a wonderful opportunity for its next owner to have the most direct control over Ferrari"s hallowed flat-plane crank V8, and with no roof, hearing the lovely motor is made that much easier. In all, nearly 17,000 Ferrari 360 coupes and Spiders were built through the end of the 2005 model year. Although as the F1 paddle transmission was introduced in the 360 model and very few were configured with the 6 speed manual, and even fewer were convertibles and manual. The 360 has mostly proven to be a relatively reliable and easy Ferrari to own. For example, major belt service can be completed with the engine in the car, whereas the F355’s V-8 had to be removed in order to perform the timing belt service. All services are up to date include a major service completed within the last 6 moths and 200 miles.
