130 bhp, 2.0-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine, four-wheel independent suspension with front struts and rear coil springs, and front disc and rear drum hydraulic brakes. Wheelbase: 103 in. In an effort to attract members of the “Millennial Generation,” those born between the mid-1970s and 2000, Ford teamed with mountain bike manufacturer Kona U.S.A. to create the Kona Edition Focus. It was introduced at the beginning of Ford’s U.S. launch cycle at the 2000 Los Angeles Auto Show, and it was more than a simple bike-and-car combo, as Kona also participated in the design of the car. Just 5,000 Kona Edition production cars were made. An integrated, bolted-down luggage rack and a fork-mount bike rack were included with the car. The unique side moldings had the molded-in Kona logo and bike tire treads, which were repeated in the heavy-duty rubber Kona floor mats. The Focus Wagon Kona Edition was perfect for the millennial with an active lifestyle, as it ensured that adventure doesn’t end when one runs out of pavement. However, this particular prototype does not include the bike and bike rack that was included in the production version. This is an actual concept vehicle that was used for the introduction of the Kona Edition. It features a Zetec engine and five-speed manual transmission.
