Vehicle description

Modified 1999 Volvo V70R This 1999 Volvo V70R was purchased new at Superior Volvo in Kansas City, Missouri, and moved with the original owner to Southern California early in 1999. I acquired it in November 2018, and the car now shows 113k miles. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.3L inline-five paired with an automatic transaxle, and modifications include a D088 radiator and intercooler, 18T turbocharger with billet compressor, IPD Stage I tune, JRZ double-adjustable coilovers, and more detailed below. This V70R is offered with a clean Carfax report, a selection of spare parts, and a clean California title in my name. I"m calling this a one owner car, the original owner had it close to 20 years, since I bought it, I"ve detailed it, fixed a few things, driven it a little and stored it indoors. I hate to sell it, it is a fantastic car and very rare, especially in this condition. I just don"t drive it enough to keep it. This is a true California creampuff car.
Send me a private message and I will send a link to the Carfax report and about 150 pictures.
The car is finished in Classic Red (801), paint is in great shape, no chips or scratches and the Carfax shows no accidents. A 3″ turbo-back exhaust system is fitted and features a Borla rear section with dual outputs, along with carbon fiber trim inserts at the exhaust cutouts in the rear valence. The rear hatch locking solenoid is not working, and the hatch must be opened with the key.
The car is fitted with an HID headlight conversion and LED taillights. Due to the low voltage of the LED taillights, they cause a warning light on the dash, resistors are included to resolve the issue. A set of 18″ TSW Nürburgring wheels are fitted with Michelin A/S 3 tires measuring 225/40. The black California black plate showing “RED V70R” is included and CA registration is good to July 2020.
The interior is finished in tan with leather upholstery and diamond-pattern alcantara seat centers. The car retains a factory airbag steering wheel and shifter, and a Pioneer SPH-DA120 Bluetooth and CarPlay compatible stereo is installed in the factory location. 113k miles are shown, approximately 700 of which were added by me.
The car is equipped with a folding third row seat, as well as a retractable cargo cover, dog barrier, and cargo mat. A set of all-weather floor mats are shown in the gallery below.
The turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-five is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The transmission was rebuilt at 83k miles. Modifications include an 18T turbocharger with ARD billet compressor wheel and Forge wastegate, an IPD Stage I tune, Do88 big core intercooler, D088 radiator, IPD external transmission cooler, an upgraded Volvo exhaust manifold, and a Xemodex electronic throttle module.

Records are available since 2005, and recent services include new injector catch bins, a fuel pump, engine oil and filter, and differential and angle gear oil.
Suspension modifications include a $4700 set of Kaplhenke JRZ RS Two coilovers, which are adjustable for compression, rebound, and ride-height, as well as a set of iPD thicker sway bars and a strut tower brace. A set of drilled and slotted brake rotors are fitted, as are a set of stainless steel brake lines. Paint – The original owner told me he had some paint work done. I’ve been all over this car and the only evidence that I saw was a little bit of primer on the flange on the drivers front fender under the hood. I touched that up. I have not waxed or buffed the car, just washed it and it has a great shine. No chips or scratches that I can find. Suspension mods: The $4700 JRZ coilovers are complete overkill on this car, but oh man, does it handle! Some of my photos are up on Mulholland Drive, this car is a real canyon carver. It is a very firm ride but not uncomfortable on rough pavement. I can take the car over speed humps at 25 mph with no rubbing. It is great on the freeway. The original window sticker is included and shows the $41,970 retail price. Factory literature is included in a black leather portfolio.
A set of 16″ factory wheels are included with Michelin Defender tires, as is a spare TSW Nürburgring wheel. A reproduction VIDA tool, four tire chains, the factory head unit, a factory spoiler, roof rails, new filters, wipers, and other parts.
The Carfax report shows brief ownership in Kansas, with California registration thereafter. No accidents are noted. A walk-around video is viewable below. In the spirit of full disclosure, these are the couple of minor things that I have not had a chance to get to on this car, spending too much time on a 72 VW bus restoration: – Minor oil leak, pretty sure it is a turbo line, the V70R forums say to use two crush washers. Hard to reach spot so I was going to have my mechanic do it on a lift. – Hatch solenoid: I have not had a chance to investigate this. I did buy an Ipd rear hatch panel mount repair kit that I planned to install. Panel is pretty tight but I can hear a little piece of plastic inside – Shifter and parking brake boots: A bit worn, not sure if replacements are available, custom ones can be made if you want the car to be perfect. – Floor mats: The rubber mats are OK, but some checkerboard mats from Cocomats.com would be cool. – Fuel filter: New one included, just didn"t have a chance to install.
- LED brake lights use so little juice, the car thinks it has a burned out light. The fix is to add the included resistors or just swap regular bulbs back in place. Headliner is nice and tight, no RMS leaks, automatic AC blows cold. The turbo mod is more to bring it up to current standards and make it more reliable. Most of the service was done at Master Volvo in Lomita, CA. Lots of money has been spent maintaining this car. The PCV system was done and I tested it. The oil has 2,700 miles on it. I’ve cleaned the intake system, rebuilt the hood latch system and done some other little repairs since buying the car. Timing belt and tensioner done June 2011 at 57,180 so 2 years or 44,400 miles left on it. H2O pump done 6 months and 6,000 miles later
This car is like a Swiss Army knife (and is even the right color). It handles, it hauls, it is fun to take to car shows and it can seat 7. It just needs a hidden hitch for the full utilitarian effect.
