Vehicle description
Selling my 1999 SL 500 Sport II package. This is the "loaded" options version of the SL 500 for 1999 including:
- Sport body kit
- Sport tuned exhaust and suspension
- Xenon headlights
- AMG monoblock rims
- Premium audio (has subwoofers in the back and fitted with aftermarket Kenwood touch screen.)
This car has no mechanical issues, and I welcome you to have your mechanic check it out. It has plenty of power and drives and handles brilliantly. The motor runs very cold for these cars (had 3. .) and it cruises on the freeway like its on rails. I"ve had 3 R129 model SL"s and something about the way this car drives is just perfect. Who knows if it was just better from the factory or what.
I bought this car from an older gentleman who"d babied it with freeway miles. It has spent its while life in California. Here are the known issues:
- Seat cushions are cracked leather, but otherwise the interior is immaculate from headliner to carpet. I have 2 sheepskin covers that go with the car.
- A/C blows ice cold but middle vents aren"t working (could be fuse)
- Rear bumper has a crack (see pictures) after my girlfriend backed into the garage. I have a replacement bumper which goes with the car ($500 on for the sport kit). This is purely cosmetic affecting only the bumper.
- Front lower valence has a crack which again is not major. This is from hitting low curbs I am sure, but is not a major fix.
- The convertible top is in great shape, but one of the pistons started leaking about 4 months ago and I have kept the hardtop on, which is in like new condition.
The car was just smoged in April and CA registration is good until April 2019. It comes with the original manual and original car cover.
This is a beautiful example of the R129 ($100k+ in 1999) before Mercedes Benz went mainstream so check it out for your summer convertible!
