Vehicle description
Here"s a great car for the S-Class aficionado. Possibly the last of the truly great, the-best-at-all-cost, S-Class Mercedes. High points:
1. Fresh tuneup with plugs, coils, belt, filters, etc., at my shop, SQ Motorsports. Runs amazing - smooth, quiet, plenty of power, everything a big Mercedes should be.
2. New Gabriel shocks all around.
3. New custom brakes - SQ Signature Series drilled and slotted zinc-coated rotors with ceramic pads.
4. New hubs and wheel bearings all around using OEM parts ($1500.00 or so before the labor).
5. No rust anywhere on the car. Paint is pretty good for it"s age; yes it has a few blemishes but overall very good to be 20 years old.
6. Interior is basically like new other than some wear in the usual spots on the driver"s seat (see pics).
7. New OEM carpet floor mats.
8. Ice cold air conditioning.
9. Brand new 16" custom alloy wheels with new Sumitomo HTR tires.
10. New euro-style clear front corner and rear tail lamp housings.
11. Original Bose stereo with trunk mounted CD changer sounds great.
But, like every car of its age, it does have a couple things it needs to be perfect. Specifically:
1. Power antenna not working; motor runs but mast stays down.
2. Power door locks and driver"s lumbar booster not working - traced to vacuum pump failure. BUT, don"t pay $1100+ for a new one from Mercedes; being a specialty shop I have a vendor who will do a reman of the existing pump on a send out basis for about $400. (Frankly I just haven"t gotten around to it. .)
3. Rear suspension has a groaning noise over large bumps; I"m thinking it could use fresh bushings. Nothing wrong with the way it drives, just a little louder than I think an S-Class should be.
4. Sunroof shade panel needs re-upholstered. Do it yourself for the cost of adhesive and an hour or two (existing upholstery removed but included), or take it to an upholstery shop for maybe $200.
But make no mistake, this car is an amazing driver - hop in it and go anywhere you want in class and style. I can deliver within about 300 miles from Louisville for $0.53/mi. round trip.
