Vehicle description
You are bidding on a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST (just like the hero car from the first fast and the furious movie!). The car runs but be aware that this car has significant engine issues that need to be addressed, and would be a bit of a project (more on that later).
The 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse is the second generation of the Eclipse and was part of the Diamond Star Motors (DSM) collaboration/joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi (it"s sister cars are the Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser). The GST was an upgraded model equipped with a 210 hp and 214 lbs/ft of torque Garrett T25 turbocharged and intercooled 2.0L 16-valve DOHC Mitsubishi 4G63 engine GST"s competed in a number of professional rally, road, and drag racing events and it was popular with automotive enthusiasts (this generation won the 1995 and 1996 Motorweek Driver"s Choice Award) and is still a collectible automobile. I am the second owner and I"ve owned this car for about 15 years.
The car has an automatic transmission, a leather interior, sunroof, the performance package noted above, all around disc brakes, and a stock spoiler. I"ve added a few modifications over the years; these include an aftermarket air intake, aftermarket cat back exhaust, an aftermarket CD player, and a turbo timer. Within the last year I replaced a stock rims (had an issue with the seal on one of them) with some handsome aftermarket options and also got new tires.
The body is in reasonably good condition for its age, the paint is generally in good shape and has a few cosmetic blemishes. The photos should show them reasonably well, including the crack in the air dam on the front bumper and the small dent just ahead of the drivers side door.
With regard to the mechanical condition, the car has really performed surprisingly well over its life until recently. It"s been cared for/driven by another family member the last 6-7 years, with probably less than 5k put on a year. However, he reports that the fourth cylinder in the engine is losing substantial compression, and the mechanic has recommended an engine rebuild to correct the problem. It does have a check engine light and the exhaust will sometimes emit a modest quantity of white smoke under turbocharge load. It will start and at least drive for awhile, but it does run fairly rough, particularly after it"s been going for awhile or the second time I start it in a short period of time (has to do with the engine being hot or cold I assume). I have taken it a few miles around town lately, but, myself, I"m not sure how long a distance I would be comfortable driving it. All and all, it would be a bit of a project, but it could be a pretty cool "modern classic" for anyone willing to put the work in! Air conditioner works, windows work, radio works, all that kind of stuff generally works.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. I ask for $200 deposit over Paypal within 3 days of sale ending with additional funds through a secure means (i.e. money order, cash in person, cashiers check verbally verified by the issuing bank). I"m willing to cooperate to a reasonable degree with any vehicle shipping service commonly quoted on eBay, and any of that kind of logistical stuff. has some finance options I"ve heard good things about, feel free to use them.
