Vehicle description
1998 Hummer H1 6.5L Turbo Diesel HMC4 with aftermarket aluminum slant back and gray leather. Looks great from 20 feet away but it is a driver and not a show queen. My first H1 was too nice to drive so when I bought my second one I made sure that I didn"t feel guilty any time I drove it. This was my daily driver from 2016-2018 then I parked it and never got a chance to restore it. It is a lot of fun and a great truck for a 20+ year old, 117k mile vehicle but it is a used 20+ year old truck. I would love to hold onto it and restore it with the kids but I need the garage space unfortunately.
Again this isn"t a pristine vehicle but it is a great drivable classic Hummer H1. Clean title in hand. This is a civilian street legal vehicle as sold and titled new in 1998. Sold as-is, where is in Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459. My cell is 850-533-1166.
Known issues:
Body - I had always planned on repainting it when I bought it but never got around to it and live in an area that doesn"t have a reputable body shop that I would feel comfortable doing the proper job to restore a classic Hummer H1. There is rust on the roof that needs to be repaired, rust on the bottom of the front doors, rust on the bulkhead under the rear window, some oxidation forming under aluminum panels, scratch marks from trees, overspray from being too close to construction house next door, mirror scrapped the wall, rock chips, etc. The fiberglass hood has no cracks but the vehicle will need some body work and paint if you are looking to make it a garage queen.
HVAC - The air conditioning worked when I drove it daily from 2016-2018. I have put 50 miles on it in the last two years. The truck cranks and drives but it now feels like the HVAC could use freon.
Fluid Drips - It is a used Hummer - the oil drain plug seeps oil, the rear end seeps a little fluid, and the rear calipers have a small leak.
Gauges - the oil pressure gauge has never worked during my ownership. The gauge itself looks new from the prior owner (that gauge is LED backlight verses all the others being regular bulbs) so I purchased a new sender unit. I never got the chance to install the sender unit but happy to include it with the miscellaneous pieces that I have for the truck.
Check Engine light - This truck has a main diesel tank and an auxiliary diesel tank. If you keep both tanks full I rarely see a check engine light. When one tank goes below 1/2 of a tank a check engine light comes on. I always assumed it was a vacuum leak coming off the tank but never did locate it.
Door locks - When I first purchased it all door locks worked great. It just sits in my garage so I never use the locks but it seems like a couple locks are sticking. Probably time to lubricate.
Window Regulators - Most work great but one window is a little slow. From time to time I have to assist and lift to get it to fully past halfway in order to fully close the window.
CTIS - The central tire inflation has been disconnected prior to my ownership and I have made no attempt to troubleshoot it.
Tires - This truck has the original 16.5" two piece bead-locks. The reason I stopped driving the Hummer as my daily driver was that I had a flat tire on the old tires and realized how hard it was to find a 16.5" tire. It was easier for me to buy a new truck that day rather than get tires installed. The only option were Superswampers or DOT approved Military Spec. I went with the new production Military Spec (Lakesea XRanger Military -0Z Load Range D 37x12.5R16.5LT). Tires are fine (less than 100 miles on them) but I never liked the way the truck drove with these verses my old tires.
Glass - there is a rock chip on the windshield.
Undercarriage - I live in a coastal environment so I try to keep the undercarriage coated to prevent salt air exposure as best as possible.
Interior - Small things like air-conditioning vents and the lock for the dog house storage have wear and tear as expected for a 20+ year old truck.
Great truck - just needs a loving home to put it to use and take care of it. Being that I have only driven it 50 miles in the last two years, I would encourage you to change fluids out before taking it on a long drive. I changed the oil back in May but haven"t touched any of the other fluids in the last several years. Will miss it but I don"t have the time or space. Let"s find it a good new home that will enjoy it. Thanks!
