Vehicle description
With regret, I"m selling my 1998 BMW M3 E36 Sedan. I searched for along time to find exactly what I wanted, and when I finally found it, I bought it with the intention of keeping it forever. Life changes are forcing the sale.
I had wanted an E36 3/4/5 - M3, four door, 5 speed manual - with a sunroof, coil-over suspension and upgraded exhaust with under 80k miles, well maintained, no rust or accidents, otherwise all original and a maximum of two owners. That"s exactly what I found in September 2018.
Since owning the car, I have put about 10k miles on it, and loved every minute of it. It"s in amazing shape for a 22 year old car, runs awesome and handles like crazy. If you"re looking at this car, chances are you know just what you"re looking at.
Other than a few items I was planning to address (listed below), this car is amazing and everything works as it should. The interior is super clean, it starts right up every time with a nice low growl from the Stromung Exhaust. The A/C blows cold and the heat is hot.
I recently had a new thermostat installed and the coolant flushed. I live in Southern California and have been working in Washington State for the past couple of years, and this car has spent some time there. I just got back from a 1200 mile drive and it made it without a hitch. The clutch is tight, there is no grinding of gears, no smoke or oil leaks - the previous owner replace the valve cover gaskets, air pump, and spark plugs at 79k miles as well as new brake pads and rotors at around 76k miles.
Since I bought the car, I haven"t adjusted the ST XTA coilover suspension. I love the stance, and the ride is firm without being harsh.
Things I would do: Tires - there is plenty of tread, and I wouldn"t say this is an immediate need, but the tires are date stamped 2015, so they"re 5 years old and showing some small cracking. They were installed at about 71k miles. On board computer - the 11-button OBC display is terrible. It was on my list to replace this year. It works, but good luck reading it. Radio display - you can read the display in certain light, and at night with the lights on, but I wasn"t super concerned about it after I had my presets programmed in. Passenger power seat - the seat back doesn"t adjust. You can hear the motor turning, but the seat back doesn"t move. Wheels - Three of the wheels have some curb rash on them. They were like that when I bought it, but I was planning to have them refinished eventually. The car looks great in pictures, and the paint is original, but there are some blemishes up close. There are probably twenty stone chips on the front fascia that have been touched up with the included touch-up paint. There are also a couple of scratches about 4 inches long near the emblem on the hood. There"s a dime sized dimple on the lower section of the driver"s door. There is some scratching behind the rear wheel on the driver"s side quarter panel as well.
I just had the oil changed and it passed CA smog with flying colors. It has no known mechanical issues, and I wouldn"t hesitate to drive it across the country today.
Please remember that this car is over 20 years old. It is not perfect, but I"ve described it the best I can and I have a bunch of additional photos available. If you are hesitant, I would suggest you come see it in person or take it to your mechanic BEFORE you bid, as your bid is a binding contract.
The title is clean, with no accidents. I do have a loan on the car through my credit union. Release of the lien will be quick and easy once the funds are received.
Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to come see the car in person.
Good luck and thanks for bidding!
Scott
