Up for sale is a rare Calypso over sand 1998 740iL. A one-owner car with less than 36,000 miles covered in the past 22 years. I have a thing for e38 BMWs and have rejuvenated a number of these underappreciated automobiles over the past few years- selling some to friends and to former strangers who I now stay in touch with. When an example such as this comes along, I feel compelled to try and bring it back to its former glory and get it into the hands of someone who will cherish it, like a sorted e38 should be. This particular BMW has been given a lot of love over the past couple of months.
The car is loaded with optional equipment: cold weather package with heated steering wheel, heated front seats, ski bag/pass through, self leveling suspension (SLS), electronic dampening control struts (EDC), park distance control (PDC), Navigation, TV receiver, DSP sound system, integrated phone and rear sunshades.
The interior is in excellent condition as you can see. The seats have not been "dyed" (ie. sprayed with paint). .they are actually that nice. See the driver seat picture or better yet the interior walk through video. The leather is VERY soft and supple. One of the nicest original interiors I have seen. It"s one of the main reasons i bought the car. On the other hand, the paint leaves a bit to be desired, but after a full paint correction it has come up nicely. These finish imperfections make this car a great driver that turns heads, but you"re not afraid of parking it next to another car. Please see exterior walk around video for more details.
Extensive maintenance and repairs have been performed to get everything in order (see the last two pictures for a partial list of what has been done to get this car ready for the next owner). I have been driving it some to ensure everything is in working order. One item that came up since photographing the car was changing the front tires such that the car now has a full set of Michelin Pilots versus the Continentals you might notice on the front in the pictures. They were causing a slight shake in the wheel at highway speeds as i believe one of the tires had a flat spot, so that has been rectified.
A couple other items of note. The windshield has slight wiper hazing, but really only visible from the outside at certain angles in the light. Nothing noticeable from the inside looking forward. The sunroof is also balky in that the button has to be held to fully retract and close it. It"s cleaned and greased. Makes no weird noises but i cannot access the module with the scanner and re-initializing it has no effect. It works normally on tilt and works fine if you hold the button so i gave up messing with it.
This is a super clean, sorted car that has had all the maintenance done and is ready to be driven!
