Vehicle description
1997 Mercedes-Benz E-420. This was Mercedes-Benz"s flagship E-class for the 1997 model year thanks to its 4.2L, 275hp V8 and all the luxury features they could throw at it. This particular example was owned for many years by an older couple and kept garaged most of its life. I purchased it in October 2019 and it was used for regular commutes for a while before being parked again during the COVID pandemic. The odometer reads a little under 154,000 miles. During the time I"ve owned it, I"ve put new tires on the alloy rims, replaced the brake rotors/pads, and replaced the air filter. I"ve also got service records from the previous owners which I"d be happy to share.
Mechanical condition: car is in full working order and passed inspection in the state of Texas a couple of weeks ago. No engine problems whatsoever in the time I"ve used it. Motor purrs along like a kitten and has some serious get-up-and-go. I’ve taken it up to 120mph and you can tell it’ll do more than that with ease should you care to try. The plastic air intake has a crack where it attaches to the plastic engine cover so that’s been repaired with duct tape. Good oil, recently changed. Very important here in Texas, it has ice-cold, fully automatic AC. I believe there"s a maintenance record from the previous owner showing they had the whole AC system replaced a few years ago. Sometimes the light behind the AC dash display unit goes off at night. Transmission shifts smoothly and features a ‘manual’ mode where you can control the gears from the shifter. It may or may not have a small leak, depending on which mechanic you ask. I"ve never seen any oil under the vehicle and the tranny fluid looks good, so I have not investigated further. The radiator seems to have a very slow leak. Possibly might be fixed by pouring in some stop leak, but I just keep a bottle of antifreeze in the trunk and top it off every month or two. This model has upgraded xenon HID lights and also fog lamps. All lights are in working order, but there was a faulty wire issue with the left low-beam. This has been fixed by running a wire from the right low-beam over to power it. The only downside is that now the on-dash computer reports a lighting fault despite all lights working fine. Power everything on the interior: seats (with memory), steering column (with memory), locks, windows, and moonroof. There is even a cool rear window sunshade that raises and lowers with the push of a button. Infrared key fob locks/unlocks the doors and trunk when aimed at the receivers on the rear or interior of the vehicle. The infrared driver-side door receiver does not work anymore. Power lumbar seat settings don’t work. Radio with Bose speakers works great with one big warning! The volume knob likes to raise volume but it is VERY hard to lower volume. So, just be warned it’s best not to touch it if you value your hearing lol. I’d recommend replacing the knob or maybe the whole unit with an aftermarket radio. There is a cassette player in the dash unit and a 6-CD changer in the trunk. Windscreen has a few repaired dings from rocks. It is the original windscreen and still has a Mercedes-Benz factory sticker on the inside. There is a leak in the washer fluid reservoir that needs to be patched up and I have never tested the front headlamp washers so I"m not sure if they function. Cosmetic condition: There are a few scratches and dings in the paint and some stains on the interior carpeting/mats. Overall it"s a great looking car and has clearly been well-cared for throughout its life.
Car will come with the original glovebox manual, tire change kit + assorted tools, brand new full-sized spare, custom fitted gold windscreen sunshade, and some spare parts for the xenon HID front low-beams. Will not come with plates.
