Vehicle description

This is my (actually my son’s) 1997 Lexus LS400. It’s in outstanding shape for its age. Here’s what I know about the car. Sorry for the long ad, but I want to give asmuch info as I can. I bought the car in the summer of 2019 as a first car for mythen turning 16 year old son. As wastold to me, the car was with its original owner from 1997 until 2018. She was a suburban lady who pampered it. She sold it to the guy I bought it from, he apparentlyknew her through a friend at his work. He was going to use the car to run in the 2019 Grassroots MotorsportsChallenge (if you’re not familiar with it, Google it…pretty cool). He never wound up being able to and sold itto me that summer. I just ran a Carfax, and it seems to verify that story. Carfax says 5 owners, however owners 1-3 are bundled together whichusually means it’s the same person. Shewas in and around the Washington DC area (the guy I bought it from lived inVA). Owners 4 and 5 are both me, I’m notsure why Carfax did that…hence why I also believe owners 1-3 are the sameperson. I also have a small handful ofreceipts from the original owner, which seem to bear out the details I wastold. Carfax also shows no accidents, and you can see that by looking at the car. The car currently has just over 192,000 miles on it. It’s obvious the original owner really took care of it, asit really shows inside and outside. Thecar is incredibly clean for 24+ years old. The body is in excellent condition. There is a small rust bubble over the left rear tire, which you can seein the photo. It hasn’t gotten any worsesince I’ve owned it. By the way, the carmay look black in the photos, but it is actually dark jade green. The interior is also similarly very wellkept. The seats are all in outstandingcondition, including the drivers’ seat. The headliner is super clean, carpet, etc… The glove box door is starting to peel, that’s about the only interior blemish I can think of. The guy I bought it from changed the suspension to K-Sportcoilovers. They are fully adjustable forheight and stiffness, and expensive. Right now the car is slightly lowered and rides very stiff. Do not be mistaken, this car does NOT ride ona cloud like the stock LS400 did. It’sstiff. It would be easy to convert itback if you want the cushy ride. It runs and drives fantastic. Fires right up and drives as it should. It steers fine, stops fine, etc… Pretty much everything in the car works. A/C is ice cold, heat, radio, adjustable seatbelts, power tilt/telescope wheel, etc… It drives as you’d expect an LS400too…well, except for the really stiff ride, LOL. Here are the known “issues”. These are all “if you care or not” problems, as none of them impact drivability. As I already outlined, there is a small rustbubble and the glove box door is peeling. There are a few warning lights on the dash. One for a tail light out, but they all areworking so? ? One for needing new brakepads (which I have). The tractioncontrol light is also blinking, not sure why. The check engine light is now on. The car had an issue a few months ago, and we took it to amechanic. They replaced the TPS and alsosaid the throttle body could use to be replaced. We couldn’t source one, so they fully cleanedand honed the existing one. The car nowdrives perfectly fine, but the CEL has come back on. I have the receipt for this repair. In January 2022, the car will be an antiqueand exempt from emissions anyway. Theradio display is going bad, so you can’t see what station is on…but the radioworks. Heated seats arenon-functional…well, the passenger one works faintly, the drivers one isdead. As I said, none of these effectshow it drives and I don’t want to make the car sound like junk. It’s in great shape, but I wanted to beupfront about issues. The car has pretty much brand new tires, you can see that inthe Carfax report, and the pictures. They have very few miles on them. Since we have owned it we have also changed the power steering hose, throttle position sensors and had the throttle body cleaned. We also swapped the fuel pump, as it diedshortly after we bought the car. It alsohas a brand new battery, installed last week. I have a huge stash of parts that go with the car. These came mostly from the guy who was goingto use it at the GRM challenge. Theyinclude: shocks, control arms, pads and rotors, lower ball joints, tie rodends, power steering gasket kit, rear axle carrier bushings, stabilizer barlinks, control arm bushings and a bunch of miscellaneous interior trim bits, factory bolts, etc…it’s quite a nice stash. We even have the parts to convert the car back to the gold trim packageit came with. Originally all the emblemsand labels were gold. My son and Ididn’t like them so we changed it all to silver, but kept all the gold trimpieces. This car is in really good shape for a 24 year oldLexus. If you’ve read this far into mylengthy ad, you know all about the LS400 and the motor it has. Plenty of good life ahead for this car. Feel free to ask any questions.
