Vehicle description

What we have here is a 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT extended cab with the 5.2 V8.
The good: Last year this puppy become old enough to just require a safety inspection which means annual inspection is whopping $7.50. Other places may charge more and others may charge less. But that’s what it cost me in November.
Inspection is good until November!
Brand new headlights and taillights. Previous owner had some black out stuff on them that I could not get off and they wouldn’t do the inspection with them on so I replaced them.
I was out of town for about 3 weeks and this truck just sat because my wife couldn’t remember to go out and start it occasionally…. When I got home it fired up on the first turn of the switch so it runs like a champ.
When I got the inspection done in November I also had those guys change the oil because I didn’t feel like doing it. So, there’s basically 3,000ish miles left of the oil change.
Pretty much brand new wipers because again… needed them to pass inspection.
The tires are in fair condition. Not great but they will get you around. *
Dodge trucks are infamous for having cracked dashboards…. You can see that this one is not cracked and still looks good!
There’s a bunch of keys…. Some of them only unlock the door but it’s always good to have plenty of spares even if they only unlock the door.
This truck comes with the owners manual as well as a Haynes manual that I got from the store.
The bad:
*I had a blow out on one of the tires so the spare is on in place of that tire. So the truck does need 1 new tire or 1 used tire.
One of the 4 front turn signal lights the previous owner did some crazy stuff and I had to cut the wires to it. However, the other 3 work and it will still pass inspection. Also, I have the wire kit to make the repair I just don’t have time to deal with it.
The bushing are not in the greatest shape and I recommend replacing them if you know how… even if you don’t know how there’s a section in the Haynes manual for it. Bushings are cheap. This doesn’t stop the truck from going anywhere.
Either the power steering pump or the gasket is leaking. This is a mild inconvenience and I honestly have noticed no difference in the way it handles if I put fluid in or not. Currently it doesn’t have fluid in it because it makes a big mess leaking out. If you want to replace the pump it’s like $40 at the parts store.
The check engine light is on. The code it throws is something about the transmission. However, I read several forums and watched some YouTube videos about this being a false code and it’s likely a bad wire somewhere. The actual transmission shifts really well even if I drop it down and walk it up myself there’s 0 problems. From what I can tell it doesn’t seem to be leaking transmission fluid.
At the end of the day this truck is a good truck that’ll get you where you need to go. Could be a good father/son project if that’s something you’re interested in.
Kelley Blue Book value for this truck is $3,200. I get that there’s some minor repairs that it needs and it could use a coat of paint. So, I’m pricing this at a FIRM $3,000. Cash and local pick up preferred.
I’m in no hurry to sell. This is a second vehicle for me and I’ll still drive it occasionally.
