Vehicle description
Up for sale is my 1996 Toyota Tacoma SR-5 Extended Cab 4WD pickup.
This is an excellent example of the first generation Tacoma - it is the highly sought after Factory Sunroof SR-5 model, with V6, Automatic, and loaded with factory options. This truck HAS NO RUST and has NEVER had any rust, PERIOD.
The truck is in exceptional condition, and has very low miles for a 25 year old vehicle - per the US Department of Transportation, average miles driven per year is currently estimated at 13,500 which means this truck should have 337,500 miles on it - but instead only has 94,138. It would be hard to find another one in this condition with such low miles for the year of manufacture.
I bought this truck in August 2012, with only 90,135 miles on it from a collector in California and originally intended on making it my daily driver. But upon receiving this truck, I could see how clean and pristine it was so I decided I needed to take immediate steps to preserve it. The truck had absolutely no rust anywhere, it looked new (see the last 3 pictures of the listing that show the under side of the truck when I bought it. It shows the white painted areas and how nice the condition the frame was in before I started the preservation).
Prior to starting my preservation project to ensure this truck would be fully protected underneath, I contacted the Eastwood Company to purchase supplies (they sell auto body paint and preservation/restoration supplies). From them, I purchased internal frame coating spray which coats the inside of the frame rails, rocker panels, doors, etc., with a 360 degree coat of rust preventative paint sprayed through a long plastic tube. Once I was done with that step of the process I proceeded to properly tape off things under the truck to get it ready for undercoating - for that step of the process I purchased a rubberized undercoating product from the Eastwood Company as well. After the undercoating was applied; I again taped off things to paint all the underbody frame rails, cross members, rear end, and any other exposed metal parts; for this step I used an original chassis satin black paint also from the Eastwood Company. At each step of the preservation process, I taped things off properly to avoid unnecessarily getting undercoating or paint anywhere it should not go and/or would not be needed. I wanted to preserve the beautiful condition of the truck while not making a mess of it as sometimes happens with undercoating and paint. I did not just randomly spray paint or under coating all over everything under this truck like so many people you see have done when selling a vehicle. I was not trying to cover up or hide rust or just make it look shiny. I only painted underneath this truck to better preserve it, and the paint I used provides more protection than the original paint. The paint I used from Eastwood Company is chip; fuel; solvent; corrosion; and high-temperature resistant.
The SR-5 model comes with the Powerful 3.4 liter V-6 Engine, Automatic Transmission, 4 Wheel Demand 4 Wheel Drive, Ice Cold Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Power Antennae, Extra Interior Lighting, 6 Way Adjustable Reclining Bucket Seats, Center Console Compartment, Tilt Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel, Cruise Control, ETR/Radio with Cassette and 4 Speakers, Quartz Digital Clock, Tachometer Gauge, Exterior Body Stripes, Aluminum Wheels with Large 31 " x 10.50" R15 BF-Goodrich Tires, Front and Rear Chrome Bumpers, Chrome Power Mirrors, Chrome Grill, Chrome Wheel Arch Moldings, Rear Sliding Back Window, Factory Pop-Up Sunroof with Removable Sun Shade, Factory Front and Rear Mud Flaps.
This Tacoma also came from the factory with these additional items:
* Toyota Security System * Roll-Up Vinyl Bed Tonneau Cover * Bed and Tailgate Liner with tie down hooks * Class III Towing Hitch Receiver Package * Spare Tire Security Cable and Lock
Other items that were added and done to truck after purchasing:
* Timing Belt & Water Pump Replacement Service done at 90,171 miles * Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil * New Air Filter * Kenwood Auto-changer controller w/6 Disc CD Player under passenger seat * Tinted Windows, limo tint on sunroof and back slider and back pop-open side windows. Drivers and passenger windows are a little lighter, they do not seem dark when looking out from the inside, visibility is exceptional. * Brand new Toyota NOS floor mats, front and rear * New battery which is wired with a storage trickle charger plug in * 3" Lift-Leveling Kit installed, truck was aligned after installation * New Rear Pro Comp shocks
Truck comes with full set of Factory Brochures & Literature, Window Sticker, Service Manuals, Service Records, Original Jack & Tool Kit, and 2 Sets of Keys
The original full size spare tire has never been used - it is in perfect shape.
After all this work and expense was completed, I simply couldn"t bring myself to drive this beauty in the harsh Iowa winters with all the salt and sand they use on the roads. Instead, I decided to only drive this truck when it was nice outside; and keep it as more of a collector vehicle. Please know that I have never driven this truck in the snow or rain, it has not been smoked in, and it is never left in the sun for long periods of time and is always garage kept. And after washing, it is always wiped down in the door jams and under the hood, keeping all these areas looking in new condition. In 8 years I have only driven this truck 4,003 miles.
Everything on this truck works perfectly.
It would be difficult to find another 1996 First Generation Tacoma in this Exceptional Condition and with such Low Mileage. It is a beautiful truck and a joy to drive. Perfect for your vehicle collection or daily driver.
I posted a short video walk-around of the truck on You Tube - here"s how to find it - search for "96 Taco" published on You Tube 9/12/2020.
Truck is sold "AS IS" with No Warranty.
Please examine all pictures carefully - it may have a very few/very minor rock chips and/or blemishes - but it is in exceptional condition for a 25 year old vehicle.
Keep in mind - when you consider my asking price - they do not make the First Generation Tacoma anymore - and examples like this one are not easy to come by.
It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for shipping for this vehicle if you purchase it. I will of course make sure I am available to your shipper to ensure the truck is safely loaded onto the transport of your choice.
I had this truck shipped in an enclosed trailer from California when I purchased it, in order to keep it nice and clean and out of potentially damaging weather events. I would suggest the same for you, but it is of course your choice.
Thank you for checking out my listing and do not hesitate to send me any questions you may have.
