Vehicle description
I am an 80 year old retired eye surgeon who loves sports cars. I have always driven sports cars including but not limited to a Daimler SP250, TR4, three 911’s, two vettes, a 55 t bird, and jaguar. I missed the thrill of an open cockpit sports car that was easy to maintain, had a classic look, was fun and easy to drive. I wanted a daily driver that did not require the constant shifting today’s driving requires. I spent more than a year looking for the car you will buy. It is an extremely beautiful low mileage 1996 911 (also known as 993) Porsche. It has a rare combination of features. I purchased the car from Brian Graff the publisher of Highline Autos. Highline Autos is a magazine that focuses on being the definitive source of distinguished automobiles. Brian told me he was acting as the intermediary for a neighbor who was liquidating his car collection. According to Brian the car had been stored in the Arizona desert for the past 10 years. It was originally purchased and remained in Arizona. When I purchased the car it had less than 32,600 miles on the speedometer. I chose the 993 because it was the last of the great air cooled Porsches. The Porsche factory commitment to provide parts and service to this car with classic trained mechanics for the foreseeable future added to my decision. The air cooled 911 from its origin in 1963 has always been a great car. In 1989 it had its first major improvement with the introduction of the 964 which had more than 80% of its mechanical parts upgraded. The body remained unchanged. In 1995 its second and last major improvement was made. It was labeled the “993”. 80% of the parts were new, and the body was restyled. It has a modern contemporary aerodynamic style. In the 1996 model the final improvement to this model was made to the engine optimizing airflow which resulted in increased torque and higher horsepower. The frame and suspension were changed. A light-alloy subframe with a multi-link rear suspension was introduced. This widened the cars track, and significantly improving its handling and stability. This not only reduced the 911 tendency to overseer, but it also reduced noise and improved ride quality. It also had n new dual flow exhaust system, larger brakes, and better power steering. A computer driven Tiptronic transmission was available as an option. It measured throttle pressure, position, speed of application along with road speed, RPM, ABS activation, lateral stability and whether the car was climbing or in descent. The computer then used an algorithm to automatically select the gears that matched the desired driving style. In addition a manual shifting option with steering wheel mounted controls were provided. I transported the car to my home in Long Beach, California where I took it to my local Porsche dealer, Circle Porsche for restoration and to make into a safe, reliable, and an up to date daily driver. I was really fortunate in that Circle Porsche had three Porsche trained Classic Car mechanics. One of whom owned a 993. The initial work order at Circle Porsche confirmed that the car was a “barn find” with the following statement on the cars initial work order: “Found brake fluid to be very dirty and separated into waxy substance “normal for vehicle that sat for extended period of time. They also confirmed that less than 50% of the original brake pads had been worn off. To bring the car into the 21 st century and make it a pleasant daily driver I had the mechanics at Circle Porsche remove the Becker CR210 cassette radio and CD player replacing it with a Porsche Classic Radio Navigation System. The Classic Navigation system fits in the dash and matches the lettering and aesthetics of the dash. The new radio has a 4 channel amplifier with 45 watts per channel output which integrated perfectly with the original Hi-Fi Sound speakers that were a factory installed option when the car was built. The sound is really amazing. In addition to its audio qualities the radio also operates a hands free cell phone operation, has Bluetooth for contemporary audio device connection and has a touch screen GPS. The combination of the factory aluminum instrument dials with a grey/blue interior, Iris blue metallic exterior, a matching blue convertible top and Porsche chrome wheels combined with supple leather power seats, air conditioning, cruise control, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power mirrors, security system, electric top, a touring suspension with impact absorbers front and rear, a great sound system and an automatic transmission made this car a rare find. The fact that the car had always been in a rust free area (and still is) where road chemicals are not used was an added bonus. At present the speedometer has 36894 miles. The car originally came with a Becker CR 210 Porsche cassette radio with multi disk CD player; dealer installed Cell phone; tool kit; accessory cleaning kit in a metal case; electric air pump and a tonneau cover with case for the convertible top. All of these items are included with your purchase. Additional pictures are available with close ups. If interested send me a message and I will forward a link to view the pictures. In preparation for its sale and to give you a wonderful car I had Circle Porsche do a major service which included replacing all drive belts, replacing fuel and oil filters, replacing the battery, oil change, replacing the brake fluid, wiper blades, and replacing the valve cover gaskets to eliminate the oil droplets that were on my garage floor. If you are offshore I will assist you with transportation. Long Beach is the home of a former Boeing airport and the second largest harbor in the USA. It is a really great car with a unique feeling of oneness with the road and environment. It has exceeded all of my expectations. I expect it will be true for you as well.
