Vehicle description
1996 Porsche 993 Speedster Twin Turbo Widebody
I acquired this car in late 2011 with about 28K miles. It was a navy blue cabriolet with factory gray leather interior that had been through the Gemballa conversion program. The front and rear narrow body fenders were replaced with Gemballa steel turbo fenders. The bumpers were replaced with OEM turbo bumpers and Gemballa fiberglass rockers were installed. The factory automatic rear wing was removed and replaced with a Gemballa fixed turbo wing. On the interior, the Gemballa gauges were installed along with a roll cage (later I removed).
The car also had received a twin turbo conversion from Prototech in Miami, FL including ECU upgrade and a serious exhaust modification. The dyno reports show 450HP to the rear wheels. The car also received a full H&R adjustable suspension, front sway bar and OEM turbo big red brake conversion.
This was the perfect platform to build the ultimate air-cooled machine. I sent the car to Wicked Motor Works in California along with a 1989 Porsche Speedster we used for measurements and parts. A full Speedster conversion was done using all OEM parts. Since the door shape of the 911 and 993 are different it was decided to separate the 993 door skin and modify the factory internal parts to accommodate the curve of the Speedster door glass and operate it electronically instead of using the manual crank. The electronic door locks and door handles were retained over the speedster straps.
We also decided to update the appearance. The factory 993 turbo bumpers were removed and we custom modified the 997 turbo front bumper. For the rear bumper we drew inspiration from the Ferrari F430 and used the carbon diffuser and modified the exhaust to the custom center tip powder coated in matte black. For the exterior paint I chose the Lamborghini Reventon PPG code with matte clear coat.
Inspiration for the interior was drawn from the 2011 Speedster. The entire interior was removed and custom wrapped in either black leather or alcantara with terracotta accents and reversed stitched. The leather hides were purchased directly from Bentley. The 993 seats were converted to 997 turbo hard back sport seats. The dash got a full carbon trim and the shifter and e-brake were replaced with the coveted OEM carbon/aluminum special order. The steering wheel and clock spring is from RUF and custom wrapped to match. We found a center console used for the factory 993 car phone and added modern day Clarion technology with navigation and blue tooth. The car also has the built in K40 front and rear radar detector and wireless TPMS.
In the past 10 years I have driven about 10K miles. I have dreamed, built and cared for this car with an unlimited budget. My next step was to complete the rear by adding the Novitec lower diffuser cap as shown in the link below. https:/ www.novitecgroup.com/en/brands/ferrari/430/430-spider/ I have already purchased the part ($2K value) which will come with the car in hopes that the new owner will finish my dream.
The car is a vailable for inspection by appointment only in Northeast Philadelphia. TXTScot@8804040 for more info. Buyer responsible for all shipping arrangements.
