Vehicle description
1996 Mercedes-Benz C36 / /AMG
-96,xxx original miles
-Clean and clear NYS title in hand
-Very clean throughout -Regularly maintained
-All original
-Never modified, abused, or raced
The C36 is the first mass-produced collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and AMG. It was the first AMG model officially sold through Mercedes-Benz dealerships. This is not just a C-class with an AMG badge - just about every mechanical component of the "W202" was extensively modified or replaced with top-shelf Mercedes and AMG parts.
To my knowledge, this car needs nothing mechanically - but with very little love and care, this car can also be brought back to pristine condition cosmetically. Whoever purchases this C36 is getting a bargain that will be sure to appreciate in value in years to come.
Exterior:
All original body panels are straight with excellent fit and gaps. No evidence of any body or paint work. Not brand-new, but paint is above average for its age with excellent depth and gloss. No major dents or deep scratches on the body. The front and rear bumper covers could use a respray to be perfect (common road rash from normal use throughout the years). It wouldn"t take much to bring this car"s exterior back to pristine condition. Chrome, glass, and lights are all in great shape.
Interior:
Leather interior is exceptional condition for its age. It is immediately apparent that this car was well taken care of upon entering. The seats, door panels, headliner, and carpets are all nearly perfect with no imperfections to note. The wood trim is very good. Original AMG instrument cluster is excellent cosmetically and in full working order, as are all other electronic accessories.
Mechanics:
The bored and stroked AMG modified 3.6 liter engine starts, idles, and drives great delivering power and torque throughout the entire RPM range. Full compression in all six cylinders. No leaking or smoking. The transmission, which was borrowed from the infamous Porsche-built 500E, shifts smoothly throughout all gears with no slipping. Original AMG exhaust system sounds aggressive under throttle, but is very refined with normal driving.
Wheels/tires:
Bridgestone Potenza 215/55/16 tires all around on straight and true OEM Mercedes Benz C-class wheels. Unfortunately, the original AMG momoblock wheels are not available.
Suspension/brakes:
For the C36, Mercedes borrowed the massive brakes from the V12 powered SL600. Needless to say, this car has amazing stopping power. New rotors and pads all around. The suspension provides the smooth comfortable ride you"d expect from a Mercedes-Benz, while AMG tuning gives it a fun performance oriented feel. Although this rare classic has been enthusiast owned and regularly maintained from new - it has also been driven 96,xxx miles over 22 years and normal wear and tear is to be expected. This is an investment that you can enojoy. Buy now and sell in the future for a profit.
