The 993 followed the venerable 964 and was produced from 1994 to 1998. This was the next iteration of the famed 911 from Porsche and it entered the U.S. as a quantum leap forward, especially from an aesthetic viewpoint. “Rounded” front fenders, 928-esque receded headlights, and a generally “softer” look gave the 993 a more modern appearance as Porsche’s final air-cooled iteration.
The cars’ displacement was the same as the 964’s at 3.6 liters, but output was increased in 1994 to 270hp from 247. Then, in 1996, horsepower rose again to 282. Gains were primarily the result of better intake flow combined with more advanced programing. In 1996, the variable valve timing system was also introduced to assist with high-end power as well as mid-range torque gains.
The 993 boasted new rear suspension geometry which helped to minimize bump steer and provide an even more planted ride while reducing the ever-present tail happy nature of the rear-engined 911.
This 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe was originally delivered to Copans Motors in Pompano Beach, Florida and remained in the state with two owners before being acquired by the third owner in 2018 in California. The car is now a 4 owner car and has a clean carfax.
This example is finished in Grand Prix White over Rubicon grey leather and is powered by a 3.6L flat-six paired to a six-speed manual transaxle. Modifications include Bilstein coilovers, Walrod front bushings, a Fabspeed X-pipe, a front lip spoiler, BBS wheels, and more detailed below. This 993 now shows 54,350 miles and is offered with factory literature, a copy of the window sticker, a clean title and carfax. This car makes for an excellent daily driver or weekend getaway car for some fun in the mountains.
The car is finished in Grand Prix White (P5P5) and is equipped with clear front turn signal lenses and headlight washers. An RS Cup-style front lip spoiler and Aerokit side skirts have been added, and the seller notes that the front bumper has been repainted due to rock chips. Drilled and vented rotors are equipped at all four corners, and suspension modifications reportedly include Bilstein PSS10 coilovers and Walrod front bushings. During an April 2020 service, the driver-side axle boot was repaired, the sway bar drop links were adjusted, and an alignment was carried out.
The interior is finished in a Porsche original color Rubicon Grey, with matching floor mats. Amenities include an electric sunroof, power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an aftermarket stereo linked with the factory-optional HiFi sound system with 10 speakers. An OEM Carrera RS steering wheel and shifter knob are on the car and the factory pieces are not included. A Fabspeed X-pipe has been fitted and the original exhaust is included in the sale. The car has a Steve Wong chip in it adding extra horsepower. The car sounds excellent and drives very quick and crisp upon shifting, one of the best driving 993 examples we have had at Merit!
