Vehicle description
CAR SHOW, TROPHY-WINNING CONDITION: People stop me all the time just to look at my car! It turns heads and I get "thumbs-up" everywhere I go! If you want a nice, unmolested Honda that will win trophies for you at local car shows then this is the one for you!
BACKGROUND: I am now 57 years old and I am the only person to ever drive this car since it was new. I have pampered it all its life and now it is time for someone else to take good care of my baby. Every single solitary thing on this car, that you can think of, has been replaced within the last 3,500 miles.
PERFORMANCE:
Car starts perfect, drives perfect, shifts perfect (the 5-speed feels tight and smooth in every gear, just like a new transmission feels). Clutch is as good as a new one too. Engine runs smooth as silk at any speed. Car does not pull or drift while going down the road. It brakes straight too. Steering is tight and very responsive like an oversized go-cart! Doing 90 MPH down the interstate only feels like 60. Floor it, without even gearing down, and you"re doing 120 in an instant! It is indeed a fun car to drive!
REMOVABLE HARDTOP:
Convertible top does not leak. It is easily removed and replaced by one person. It stores in the trunk so you always have it with you. The cleverly designed frame that it is stored in even allows you to have full access to the trunk"s cargo area.
DRIVETRAIN ($4,200):
My car was originally the base "S" model. I bought it for my 100 mile round-trip commute to work every day. It got me a whopping 40 MPG back when gas was only $0.99 a gallon! So at that rate my car racked up it"s first 100,000 miles (all highway miles) by 1998. When my odometer showed 246,500 miles I had the 1.5 litre drive train removed. To replace it, I bought a B16A2 VTEC and NON-LSD tranny out of a 1-owner "99 Civic Si. At that time the VTEC had approximately 140,000 miles on it (I could lie to you and say it was one of those so-called "low mileage" engines from Japan but I won"t do that because I am an honest person). I had my professional mechanic replace all new gaskets (except head gasket), hoses, and belts from top to bottom on the engine before installed (that made it very easy to replace the oil pan gasket, of course). Valves were then adjusted by my good friend at Victory Honda in Jackson, TN where I bought the car new in 1995. He is the only mechanic there who ever worked on my car all these years. Victory Honda has all my service records except for the few where I had the engine swap done. Engine was then professionally tuned by dkGoodrich in Frankfort, KY shortly thereafter. The torque and horse power results from the tune were almost exactly the same as the VTEC"s factory specs when the engine was new so you know the motor still performs as it should.
OBD2 to OBD1 ($400): Someone asked what I did to get my OBD2 engine to work in my OBD1 car. I had to buy a VTEC distributor for an OBD1 car. Looking for one to my satisfaction was not easy. Aftermarket distributors just do not last. . actually they are nothing but junk! So my quest was to find a brand new OEM distributor! It just so happens that I did just that. I found one of the last OEM distributors in existence from a Honda dealer on-line. It set me back $400 but it was well worth it! Thanks for the inquiry.
SUSPENSION ($1,400): The last thing I installed was a new set of Tein fully adjustable Flex-Z coilovers. I still have my Eibach lowering springs just in case you want them. Car also has Eibach front and rear anti-sway bars as well as front and rear camber kits. It also has all new trailing arm bushings.
STEREO ($900): I bought the JL Audio subwoofer "Stealthbox" in used condition several years ago here on eBay. The JL Audio amp shown in the photo behind the passenger seat is brand new and is a perfect match for the Stealthbox per my conversation with JL Audio. I never got around to having either of them hooked up. Please note that I have had a BUNCH of people ask me if I will sell my ULTRA RARE Stealthbox separately. The answer is unequivocally, NO! Stereo has Bluetooth and is also Sirius XM ready.
STEERING (steering wheel $250):
Like all of the base "S" model del Sol"s, my car did not come from the factory with power steering. I do have a set of power steering pump brackets (hardest parts to find) that I will include with the car in the event you should want to convert it yourself. The "Si" trim level as well as the "VTEC" trim level del Sol"s automatically came from the factory with power steering so the OEM setup for power steering exists and is easy to convert if you want. I have previously estimated the cost to add power steering to be around $900. I will be glad to provide you with all of that information if you are interested. I am mentioning this for those of you who are not familiar with how earlier model civics were equipped. Especially because the absence of power steering is a little bit more noticeable now with my new, smaller diameter, leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel.
LUXURY HEATED LEATHER POWER SEATS ($600):
Believe it or not, the 2014 Civic EX-L leather seats bolted right up to the factory seat bolt holes in the floor. I bought them in 2014 out of a brand new car that was totaled-out during a test drive by a prospective new car buyer. I didn"t get around to installing them until 2018. The six way power driver"s seat is fully operational. The heated feature for them has never been hooked up.
I no longer have the original seats.
INTERIOR UPGRADES ($600): The stock interior lighting in a del Sol is very bleak to say the least! I have enhanced the interior of mine with a dome light out of a BMW 328i convertible. It is very bright and includes map lights for both the driver and passenger. It also has lighting for the footwells too! The beautiful new red carpet sets it off as well. The winning bidder will thoroughly enjoy the brightness of this interior!
WHEELS/TIRES ($1,000): Tires are almost brand new. They have about 95% tread remaining and are extremely quiet on the highway. They are Barum Bravuris size 205/45-17 and are mounted on MOMO Winter wheels. The wheels do have a few scuff marks on them. Tires do not rub at any time. I have a matching wheel for a spare.
AIR CONDITIONING ($1,500): The A/C on this car has ENTIRELY been replaced with all new components. What do I mean by that? All of the normal things have been replaced as well as the blower motor and squirrel cage. But in addition to all of those, one more thing that is usually not, which is the insulation inside the condenser housing. Inside that box was insulation that had deteriorated to the point that there was literally nothing left of it. The brand new insulation that was installed looked fabulous and will keep that housing insulated for decades to come!
PAINT/BODY ($3,800):
Paint looks absolutely beautiful but does have a few tiny blemishes. All stripes and del Sol logo are painted on - no decals! Paint scheme and colors were derived from the 45th anniversary Camaro. If you are curious about anything not shown please don"t hesitate to ask. I have pictures of the car before and during the one and only repaint. In them you can easily see the car never had any previous reason to go to a body shop! ! I will be glad to send additional pictures of anything you want to see. Car has NEVER had any rust. Car has NEVER been in ANY KIND of accident! !
Someone asked me if my red trim around the bottom was an add-on or did it replace Honda trim. The red trim on the sides and rear is merely the factory body parts that came on every del Sol, but painted Mayan color code red instead of the normal black color. The red trim on the front is simply an add-on front spoiler that I bought new here on for about $69 and then after painting it Mayan red, I attached it over the top of the lower part of the factory front bumper.
WILWOOD BRAKES ($3,200): The entire brake system on my baby has been replaced. All new Wilwood rotors, Wilwood calipers, Wilwood brake lines, Wilwood emergency brakes, and new master cylinder. Car stops quick like it should.
EXHAUST ($250): Someone asked if my exhaust was stock. No, the exhaust is no longer the factory stock exhaust. The tone is a low pitched, throaty rumble. The chrome tip is not stock either but it is OEM for a Ford Focus. It was the only thing I could find that I liked.
MISCELLANEOUS NEW PARTS ($800): Radiator, Both radiator fan motors, Front and rear oxygen sensors, Fuel pump, Clutch safety switch, Driver"s exterior door handle with new Honda (OEM) door handle, Headlights and bulbs, Fog lights and bulbs, Blower motor switch handle, Trunk lid struts, spark plugs, plug wires, and much, much more that I cannot recall right now.
HONESTY ($priceless): I am a very honest person. If you don"t believe me just read all my feedback as a seller. I sold a 79 Trans Am here on to a corvette dealer in St. Louis. The feedback he left for me was great! He said "car was exactly as described." So bid with confidence because you will definitely get a VERY VERY VERY VERY good car! If you"re the winning bidder, I assure you that you will NOT be disappointed in your purchase! May God bless you and yours, and thanks for taking the time to look at my baby. My "baby" is also listed for sale locally so I reserve the right to end this auction early if needed.
FINANCING: For those of you who want to buy my car, please have the money before you click the button. If you need financing you can contact J.J.Best or Light Stream on line. They will finance most antique and classic specialty cars like mine.
