Vehicle description
Up for auction is this rare 1993 Lexus SC300 5 speed manualcoupe. With less than 4,000 manualtransmission units ever made, coupled with the fact that the vast majority ofthose remaining today have been highly modified, turned into drift cars or beenwrecked, this truly is a desirable and unique car that is very hard tofind. Lastly, this one is bone stock andin outstanding original condition. Inthese turbulent economic times, I would consider this to be an excellentinvestment vehicle as it continues to gain value every year. I could give excruciating details on the car’s specs, but Isuggest you do a search instead. Sufficeit to say, what makes this rear-wheel drive platform so desirable is that itcombines first generation Lexus quality with performance. It shares the same drive train as the ToyotaSupra, albeit without a turbo. Manypeople add the turbo to these cars, but I think the value is in being bonestock. The 5-speed transmission is ablast to drive and the key element in making this car so special. While not perfect, this car is in excellent shape. I’m the third owner (about 5 years) and therewere two previous owners. The car hasbeen garaged on the Central Coast of CA (Santa Barbara and Arroyo Grande) itsentire life, so absolutely no rust. Thepaint has a minor scrape in the lower driver’s front panel, one small chip inthe paint on the hood (about the size of a BB) and very minor parking lot scrapes and dings. (See pics) Clear coat isexcellent and it presents very nicely for an original paint car. The drive train is all original and has been babied all itslife. Oil changes every 3,000 miles andthe service records to back that up. Ithas 184,000 and still runs like a new car. It needed a new clutch when I bought it so I went ahead and had thetransmission rebuilt at the same time (about 163,000). No leaks or drips from the drive train. Timingbelt should probably be done at around 200,000. Based upon my ownership experience and the service records, it’s been avery trouble-free car. The ride is unbelievably smooth and rattle free and it’sa pleasure to drive. The interior is in great shape. Most first gen Lexus cars have leatherupholstery in poor condition. Theupholstery on this one is great. Nocracks, fading or tears. The stereo is the original Nackamichi with a CDchanger in the truck which still works. I understand buying a car on E-Bay is a scary proposition soI want to point out all the car’s known faults so there are no surprises: · The air conditioner worked great when Ipurchased but will need a recharge. Thisis the old R12 refrigerant system which is hard to find. I was going to switch over to R134 butdecided to leave that decision to the new owner. · Body/Paint is in what I consider to be excellentcondition for the age of the vehicle. That said, it is a 28 year old car and has some minor chips, scrapes anddings. · The LEDs on the dash climate control are juststarting to fade. The display can berebuilt when the time comes very reasonably. In my opinion it still works fine for the immediate future. · The rear-view mirror and driver seat memoryfunctions don’t currently work. I boughta used ECU to fix the issue but never got around to installing. Power seats still function fine and themirrors can be adjusted manually in the meantime. · The rear speakers blew this past year. Not sure ifs its an issue with the speakersthemselves or the fader in the Nakamichi head unit. I’m not an audiophile so I think it stillsounds great with just the front speakers. · The tires are expensive 80,000 mile Michelintires with only about 30,000 miles on them. That said, they are now about 8+ years old. I would personally drive them across county, but many people don’t like to drive a tire that’s older than 6 years. · The oem chrome wheels have some chrome platingthat is starting to peel. (see pics) I want the buyer to know exactly what they are bidding onwhich is why I have done my best to describe the condition of this car. I’m a fairly picky guy and I’ve been veryproud to own this rare little coupe. I’dkeep it, but I desperately need to downsize and rarely drive it anymore. When I do I have second thoughts about evergiving it up, but I’m also older and getting into a low car like this isgetting harder to do. Good luck bidding. You won’t be disappointed with this car!
