Vehicle description
I have a video tour of the car you can watch here: https:/ youtu.be/IE5H6bnFldQ
This 1991 Chevy Caprice with a 5.2L / 318ci engine has approximately 183,000 miles. It is in excellent mechanical shape. I am the second owner, and I have owned the car since 2001 (previously owned by an elderly lady who rarely drove it) and I"ve done 95% of all the mechanical work on it. My intention was to continue to maintain the high mechanical quality of the car so that I could hand it down to my future son when he turns 18, but now that I have a 14-month-old son, my wife and I aren’t up for keeping the car garaged for another 18 years.
I have complete mechanical records of the vehicle. Some very positive things about the car: It drives wonderfully. I have changed the oil regularly and have never had engine issues. The transmission was rebuilt 5,000 miles ago, so it has barely been driven. The air conditioning works great, as it was rebuilt along with the cooling system 10,000 miles ago. Both the transmission and AC were rebuilt because I was intending to maintain the vehicle for the next 20 years. If you are looking to purchase a vehicle like this so you can do extensive aesthetic / body updates, then this car is an unmatched purchase. You can put a gorgeous paint job on this car and have a quality driver for a long time.
The only mechanical problems I am aware of: The rear window defogger does not work The turn signal on one side does not automatically turn off after straightening the wheel. You have to manually turn the turn signal back off on one side. The cruise control works half the time. I am not certain of the cause, but I suspect it is just bad electrical contacts in the turn signal arm, so I actually have that part ready to replace and will include it with the vehicle in case that is something you would like to replace (it’s a $150 part). The driver side seat belt stopped latching several years ago and the OEM replacement belt was like $400 at the time, so I simply cut the latch off and use the middle seat’s latch when I drive. So it’s still safe to drive, but that is an oddity I should mention.
