This Range Rover Classic came my way a few months ago, it has been parked for a very long time, and was rust free, so I thought it a good candidate for one of my Zombie Motors 300tdi turbo diesel conversions. . Odometer showing only 32,500 miles , which is also cool. I doubt if mileage is correct, but I was told it could be by the previous owner.
As it had not been running in an extended amount of time, I thought I could get lucky with my usual trifecta of resurrection sacrifice : A) A new battery , B) Dropped the fuel tank and put in a new fuel pump / fuel filter , and C) Installed a new fuel pump relay.
It DID start and run briefly, a few times. IT runs perfectly on starting fluid, so ignition system works. It does start sometimes, and run perfectly normally, but not long enough to go out and drive. Now, for the last couple of days, I can not get it to start unless it is running on starting fluid.
I would GUESS it needs another fuel injection ECU ? ? Too bad I sold all of mine here on ebay . .
I didn"t really care about whether it was running or not , except to move around shop, as I would have put a diesel engine into it ( I can do that for you , if you like, call for details) - - and I am not interested in spending more time on this trying to get it running with the gasoline engine. I have hit my wall of sacrificial time on it.
After further reflection, I do not want to convert this truck. . the body and paint are just not good enough for me to do the job on speculation. Paint is faded on roof and hood, dent here and there (I have taken photos of the worst of it) , and the interior is very messy.
Previous owner cut off the power seat plugs for some reason . Plug ends still here.
Plastics on center console ugly / loose.
Carpets loose.
Floors look great! None of the common Range Rover floor rust that I can see. .
Sold with front brush guard and roof rack, as pictured.
Headliner not too shabby, probably because the sunroof is taped closed.
A very quick survey shows front windows operate, rear do not. Door handles all work, except for passenger side rear door is stuck. Carpets all there , front dirty. Will need to be cleaned out and carpets put back in , and some wiring done to front seats to get them to work. All other wiring appears to be original and in good condition. Engine does turn over fast and easily right now. I just can not get it to start on its own any more. I GIVE UP.
I have 4 other, better, land rover diesel candidates at the moment, so will pass this one along to the highest bidder, or the guy who calls me up and makes a deal and buys it.
In short, an excellent Range Rover Classic project for someone . . . Little/ no rust , overall pretty straight, and complete and original.
Rolls easily, and during one time it ran fine for about 3 minutes, I did put in gear, start going down the street before it cut out and did not re-start. No evidence of head gasket problems. No oil in water/ vice versa. Instruments work. Transmission and brakes worked. power steering works and does not leak.
Rolls easily, and I can help you get it transported to wherever you are in the USA. Figure on $450 - $1900 depending on how far from zip code 97404 you are.
