Hello, up for bid is a super clean, all original rust-free California (since brand new) 1988 Nissan 300ZX that"s been in the same family since new - and has only 40,708 original miles. My dad purchased this car brand new from Novato Nissan (which later became North Bay Nissan) in Novato, CA in February 1988 (when I was 11 years old). I have all of the original books, the brochure, and documentation for the vehicle (except for the window sticker). It also comes with a clean/clear California title and current California registration.
This car has been 100% garage kept since new, has been well maintained (with regular oil changes), and just received a new timing belt, water pump, fuel gauge sending unit, oil pressure sending unit, wiper blades, battery, and new tires within the last 200 miles (I have all the documentation, and the work was performed by a reputable shop).
This is probably one of the last remaining all-original (near collector status, and low mileage) 1988 300ZXs remaining on the planet. It runs and drives like new and has excellent brakes, steering, suspension, alignment, and clutch, and has never been smoked in (or had any animals inside) - and even smells brand new inside! It’s truly a rolling time capsule of a vehicle, and gets compliments everywhere I drive it.
This vehicle has every available option for 1988 (except for the optional digital instrument cluster), and is the non-turbo version of the3.0 liter V6.
Below is a break-down of details (I’m trying to be as accurate/transparent as possible):
ENGINE/TRANSMISSION/DRIVE TRAIN - runs, drives, steers like new. No check engines lights or warning lights on the dashboard. The engine fires right up, runs great, and idles smoothly. The brakes and clutch are also in great shape, and there is about 85+ percent pad life on the ORIGINAL brake pads. YES –my dad drove like a grandma, and I can personally attest that this vehicle was NEVER used as a commuter. 90+ percent of the miles on this car were leisure miles/long distance driving around Northern California.
ELECTRONICS – EVERYTHING on this vehicle works well –including all gauges, lights, wipers, power windows, cruise control, etc.
EMISSIONS – it runs very clean (you can’t smell anything at the tail pipe once warmed up, and it recently passed a California emissions test with no issues).
EXTERIOR – the paint is 100% original and shines very well. However, the vehicle was in storage for the last 15 years and various cardboard boxes were stacked on it (mostly on the hood), resulting in some minor to moderate scratches to the hood. There are also a few other minor scratches to the exterior. Overall, however, I would rate the exterior as a 9/10.
BODY DAMAGE – there is some minor to moderate collision damage to the passenger-side rear corner. My dad backed the car into a fixed object about 20 years ago. Overall the damage doesn’t look too bad, and it’s not very noticeable in bright sun. There is, however, a broken side-marker light (as photographed).
INTERIOR – the interior of this vehicle is LIKE NEW, with almost zero wear to the seats, dashboard, steering wheel, buttons, radio controls,carpeting, or other touch points. The only (slightly) noticeable wear-and-tear is to the original floor mats (which are still in great shape). It also smells LIKE NEW inside (and I can confirm this, since I was 11 when my dad purchased this vehicle, and it still smells like the day he got it). I would give the interior a 9.9 out of 10
CARFAX – this vehicle comes with a clean CarFax, with no accident history, and shows it was a one owner vehicle (just before I became the owner). The vehicle has been the same family since brand new
BOOKS/DOCUMENTATION – This vehicle comes with the original owner’s manual, 2 original Nissan ignition keys, one key for the T-top locks, and the original sales brochure (which is in in excellent condition), plus the original cassette brochure (on how to operate the stereo). It also comes with the original "Novato Nissan" license plate frame. I do not have the original window sticker,unfortunately.
DEFICIENCIES/PROBLEM AREAS – the air conditioning does notwork. To the best of my knowledge it was working when my dad parked the vehicle 15 years ago. However, I have not had any diagnostic work performed. It could just need a basic system evacuation and re-charge (there is some pressure in the system, as I checked it via the low pressure Schrader valve). Therefore, my assumption is there are no major leak issues (however, I am NOT providing any warranty to this statement, and I’m not an auto mechanic).
Oil seepage - There appears to be a slight oil seepage leak from the back of the engine, just behind the oil pan. My assumption is this is a rear main leak, but it does not drip and you could probably keep the car for years before having to put money into this issue.
I"m not aware of any other issues with this vehicle.
