Vehicle Details - OVERVIEWMercedes-Benz S-Class 420SEL in near mint condition. This is a 2 owner, garage kept Southern California car, the last owner purchased it 18 years ago; it has had seat covers on it throughout the duration of his ownership. The original tool kit in the trunk has never been used and is still in the sealed plastic wrapping, as is the original first aid kit. The car is 100% original paint with the exception of the right doors as determined using a digital micrometer, the repair quality is very good and without a trained eye, it's unlikely to be seen. The body on this car is incredibly straight, the interior is in beautiful condition, and the wood trim is in excellent condition with only one hairline crack on the wood trim next to the gear selector; the dash is free of any cracks.- EXTERIORThere were just a few dings that had occurred from inconsiderate individuals opening their car doors too far over the car's 33 year life. I had a paintless dent removal company remove all the door dings, making the car the straightest 33 year old survivor I have ever seen! The only ding that was not removed is located on the left rear corner, just below the tail light, and it about 1/2 the size of a dime; if you were not looking specifically for it, you would probably not see it. The trunk lid has one hairline scratch that is approx. 5" in length and has been professionally touched up, but if you look for it, you can see it. The paint has a brilliant, deep gloss that rivals even a new Mercedes; this car frequently gets thumbs up and lots of smiles from other drivers while going down the road, and generates lots of questions and comments at the gas station and in parking lots. All of the metal and chrome has a deep shine, it is not all pitted as one would expect on a car of this age, and really looks quite impressive. This car has only lived in Southern California, so it has absolutely no sign of rust! I would give the exterior an 8.75/10 in condition.- INTERIORThe leather looks amazing; the interior on this car looks better than most cars that are just a few years old! The air conditioning blows nice and cold, and the heater blows nice and warm, just as it should. The headliner is in excellent condition with no sagging for signs of it falling down, it is also spotlessly clean, as is the rest of the interior. The only wear that I really noticed is around the driver's seat belt height adjuster; this is extremely common on the Mercedes 126 Chassis, and is minor. The sunroof and all power windows open and close with no sign of slowing down or wearing out, and all door locks operate properly. The original stereo was replaced with an aftermarket Kenwood head unit that has a single CD player, USB and Aux. inputs, and also has Bluetooth audio and for handsfree talking. Aside from the radio, the interior is all original including the floor mats; I would give it a 9/10 in condition.- MechanicalThe car has been Mercedes dealer serviced throughout the majority of it's life. The following services were performed in the VERY recent past: Oil change, valve cover gaskets on both sides of the engine were replaced, left and right motor mounts, coolant service, spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap, and rotor was just replaced, new fuel filter and front and rear brakes, air conditioning service and conversion to R134a, all belts and hoses were checked, new tires were just installed about 25 miles ago, I'm sure I am forgetting to list much of what I just had done, I have listed the things that I can think of off the top of my head. The car starts right up, even if it's been sitting for days; it runs very well, and even better after it warms up. I have driven this car out on the highway with no vibrations noticed at any speeds. Under all driving conditions I have put this car through, it has always shifted beautifully, nice and smooth with no delays going into any gear. Also, this car always runs nice and cool, regardless of how hot it is outside, I have not seen the coolant temperature go beyond 90 degrees. I would give this car about an 8.75/10 in overall mechanical condition.- OverallThis is definitely one of the nicest Mercedes 126 chassis on the market I would venture to say it is in the top 2-3% in overall condition. It looks great, runs great, and you feel great while driving it. The classic cars of the 1980's are going way up in value right now, according to Hagerty, this car has seen a recent jump in value; they put this car at value of $8,800 and climbing quickly! I really struggled with the idea of selling this car knowing it's an emerging classic in very nice condition, If I had the extra room at my house, I would hold on to it without hesitation. This is a car that is reliable enough to use as a daily driver, but clean enough that you might want to keep it in the garage and just take it out on the weekends, the choice is yours, all you need to do it buy it.- ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONI do not charge a Doc fee, but if you live or take delivery in CA, sales tax and applicable DMV fees will be due.
