Vehicle description
Selling my 1988 Cadillac Allante with very low (55,500) miles. In excellent original condition with full leather interior and the HT4100 Cadillac Engine and GM 4-speed, overdrive transmission. The car has been garaged parked since 2012, the year of its last registration. The paint shows clear coat hazing due to time and age, as the pictures show.
The Italian leather interior is nearly perfect, no tears, seam separation or damage of any kind. The unique instrument panel is in perfect condition, showing no lights or warnings of any kind. The trunk looks like new, with the original spare and tools. Original owner"s manual goes with the car.
Most readers will know the amazing story behind these cars as they were built to function as the halo car for Cadillac. Designed and built by Pininfarina in Turin, Italy with Cadillac shipping the front-wheel-drive chasses to Italy for installation of the custom-built bodies, and then shipped by specially-built Boeing 747s back to Detroit for the power train installation by Cadillac.
This was the very best that Cadillac could build (remember they were peddling Cimarrons back then!) and all parts, switches, trim, etc. are unique to the Allante, of the highest quality and not used by any other GM cars. Don"t let that scare you as they built 21,000 of them and parts are mostly readily available.
This car has been fully serviced, gas tank drained and cleaned, and runs and drives very well. It only needs attention to the paint, and probably new tires. The tires on the car look great, but are older.
The radio turns on but has no sound, but the power antenna works just fine.
The good: comes with the original $6,000 hardtop. Convertible top is like new. Excellent driver. Great convertible cruiser that garners admiring attention wherever I take it. Not a speck of rust anywhere, with a clean, original undercarriage. Even the original stainless steel exhaust and muffler are extant and working well. As an example of value, these hardtops alone sell for $3,000-$4,000 on all the time. After 1989 Cadillac no longer included the hard top in an attempt to keep the $55,000 price from rising. This car does not have the ill-fated Northstar engine, with all its problems and failings. Those were only on the 1993 model and should be avoided.
The car has no accidents in its history of any kind and the body is perfect with all gaps still at factory settings. The lights are not cracked and they work perfectly as does the Twilight Sentinel
The Not-so-good: Needs attention to the paint and probably new tires. The seat switches stick sometimes from disuse. Radio is silent
It can stay in my garage until you can arrange pickup and I will cooperate with your shipper in any way necessary. I require a non-refundable deposit on PayPal and the balance wire transfered to my bank. I cannot accept checks.
It"s a very nice car, showing strong appreciation and collector interest. These cars are very special and will never be any less expensive. They are going up all the time, as they should. Ignored for decades, they are now coming into their own as valued collector cars. They check all the collector boxes: convertibles, sporty, V8 power, Italian heritage, famous maker, every celebrity had one back in the day. Even J. R. Ewing (For those of us whose memorys go back that far!)
