Vehicle description
BMW M6 . The BMW M6 is quite impressive now compared to modernperformance vehicles but back in 1988 when the car was new, it was like nothingelse out there. In a field of its own –there was no competition. These highlyengineered cars were stunning to look at with sharp design lines and radicalfeatures that were unheard of in the 80s. Performance was substantial with 0-60 times logged at 6.1 secs andadvanced handling characteristics. The M6was the second fastest BMW ever built at 158mph – only the equally rare M1coupe boasts higher maximum speed. Therewere only 1,632 M6s shipped into the US and these cars were only availableduring the 1987 and 1988 model years. So this 1988 M6 is relatively rare – and it is very rare inthe Royal Blue Metallic. The interior issuper clean with awesome tan natural leather. This car is decked out with full power sport seat, manual rear sunshade, rear A/C (both front and rear air conditioners run nice and cold), sunroof, premiumstereo, front and rear spoilers, fog lights and power windows. It is truly a work of art and will undoubtedlycontinue to appreciate in the future. I am the 3 rd owner of this M6. It has always been garaged and has never seenthe snow/ice or salt. The 2 nd owner also used my mechanic and he (the mechanic) stated that the car wasserviced on a regular basis and the owner took great care to maintain it inexcellent condition. The car has been driven just 86,000 miles. I am only selling it because I am moving toCA and unfortunately have limited garage space. My loss – your gain! Some History: The iconic ‘shark nosed’ E24 maintained the silhouette ofthe classic CS, but it was far larger, wider and modern. Where comparing the CS to the E324, thestylistic evolution is reminiscent of the how the Dino evolved into the larger Ferrari308/328. The 6 series ultimately becameBMW’s flagship model of the 1980s. Launchedin Europe at the M635CSi at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 11983 and went on salewith the 1984 model year. When it finallymade it to America – as a catalyzed version – it was the 1987 model andmarketed as the M6. There were only twomodel years sold in the US – the 1987 and 1988. The 1988 model was a universal model and it shared the smaller Europeanbumpers and makes it the more desirable model year. In 1987, Car & Driver wrote: “TheBMW M6 is one of those wild, wonderful cars that throw the scales of automotivejustice totally off balance. This car doesn’t make any sense, for threeimportant reasons: money, money, and money. Average folks just can’t understandspending $58,720 for anything that doesn’t have at least two bedrooms. Car guysrightly point out that you can get this brand of supercar performance for aheck of a lot less. The M6 shouldn’t generate the rave reviews that it does —but it does, and we love it The M6 is slowly emerging as the holy grail offirst-generation BMW M-cars. It is a collectible car for many reasons — all ofthem legitimate. With the exception of the M1 supercar, the U.S.-spec M6 wasthe first consumer M-car for the North American market. The hand-built M88 motor is dynamic and shares DNAwith the M1. The timeless styling of the E24 is slowly maturing, and it’s agingwell. The M6 is starting to occupy a place of stature among the small andexclusive club of collectible post-war BMWs.
