Vehicle description

1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Signal Red/Black Leather Rust Free Garage Kept 1 Owner 560SL Survivor.
If you"ve been looking for a 560SL, this might be the right car for you. It seems everyone forgets about so many important things in regards to these cars that affect value, or at least how much money you are going to put into it.
These cars are sought after well, because they are the best of the R107 lineup, however people seem to forget that these cars have issues that need to be tended to as well, sure some call the engines "bulletproof"", but candidly that isn"t a fact. These cars have plastic timing chain tensioners, which become brittle with age, and really has little do do with mileage. This car has had the timing chain guides and rails replaced recently, which is a $3,000 job, and ALL SL"s need the guides and rails changed. The reason being is that if a timing chain rail breaks, you"ll be replacing the engine. So please, even if you don"t buy this SL, buy one with the timing chain guides replaced, or at least budget the $3,000 for them into your purchase price.
This car has excellent solar red paint which shines like new. All VIN stickers are on every panel, and even both bumpers, so she has never been even bumped.
The car runs and drives like a new SL and I wouldn"t be afraid to drive it anywhere, although she hasn"t seen a lot of road miles in recent years, she"s got new belts, tires, etc. and is ready to go.
Everything on this car is "nice". The soft top is original and is "black". .its also in great shape. Interior is all original to the car and has held up well, even for the low mileage. The original Becker Grand Prix radio has been replaced by a 90"s era aftermarket unit, but the original Becker is in the box. The veneers are really nice on this car, aren"t faded, warped, cracked. .etc. The drivers side sea bolster is one of the nicest I"ve ever seen on a R107
All the glass is original as well. The original "Daimler Benz" sticker still sits proudly on the windshield.
Most maintenance records, "maybe on the window sticker"
If this car has a downside. .and I will say that kindly, it is that it has a dash crack by the vent. It seems you either have a rust free SL, or one with a dash crack. .this one has the dash crack. You can put a cap on it for $150 or spend the $1,500 and have it replaced. Or, leave it it alone unless you are a complete purist nut with laser beams for eyes and can look up at the vent while driving and it stresses you out that much.
The price on this SL is going to be 18K, and it is for sale locally as well. This auction can and will be ended in the event of a sale outside of eBay.
I have been on for over a decade, with over 1100 perfect transactions. This car is a "get what you pay for" car.
Dont be fooled by these cars on that have been wrecked, have cheap repaints, repro interiors, covered up rust and 10 owners. Remember, 10 years ago nobody wanted these cars, so nobody took care of them. This car is a very honest example and well worth 20k.
