Vehicle description
A great example of the 1986 VW pop-top bus. It"s lived in the mountains for a long time and the fresh mountain air has helped to keep the condition of this bus excellent. We"ve owned her for 10 years and had minimal issues with it. We spent some money on it 2 years ago to smooth out some minor interior issues but otherwise she runs smooth and sound great for her age.
That being said, there are (as always with Vehicles this age) some easily reparable/ replaceable parts to get her 100% functioning.
Things that don"t work. . 1. Under-dash blower. (lots of Youtube videos to show how to replace this and a fairly inexpensive part. 2.Fridge. The fridge is gas or electric and was working for a short time before stopping. It might be an easy fix for someone who knows how or i"d suggest getting a replacement. 3.A/C The A/C compressor/motor in the engine compartment has been removed. This could easily be replaced with a new part or upgraded system. 4. Speedo stoped turning at 240,000miles. We"ve done approx 20,000 in her since then. We never looked into the speedo problem but it may be an easy fix. 5.Small patchable tears in the poptup as shown in the photos.
We have set our reserve to take into account these issues for the next owner.
If we were going to keep the bus then i"d like to put a Subaru engine in her which is a standard upgrade conversion and will give you a lot more power up hills whilst solving your speedo issue (it will have to be set to any new engine.
That being said she works great as she is, so long as your not in a rush to go anywhere uphill. . but then again why would anyone every want to be in a rush in one of these amazing vans?
My wife and I just had a baby and we haven"t used it as much as we would like, we have too many cars as it is and need to free up drive space and save money on annual registration fees etc. Otherwise we really wouldn"t be selling the bus. She works great, is reliable and could drive anywhere tomorrow. It"ll be hard to sell her!
We will consider delivering the van if needed and for an additional fee otherwise you will need to come to Colorado to collect her.
Please send me private messages if you have more questions.
Thanks and good luck
