Here’s your chance to own one of the few remaining examples of this piece of American automotive history. A classic K-car in the desirable metallic burgundy paint with white hood and interior. Comprehensive service history with mileage at 61,240. Current smog & registration.
It runs. The suspension is perfect for San Francisco’s streets, and so long as you stay away from long hill climbs it’s pretty fuel efficient. The 2.4L 4-cyl turbo and auto transmission are unspectacular, but perfect for beach cruising and bar crawling with three of your best friends. The Baron is a very social car - favorite locations are the lower lot at Baker Beach, chilling on Chestnut St, out front at The Ramp or Prizefighter, or in the lot at Rudy’s Can’t Fail.
Most features don’t work properly. What can you expect for a car made during the worst era of US automotive manufacturing? It’s nearly unique because these cars were not made to survive. It’s amazing there’s virtually no rust and that the electrics even pretend to function. It does have a new Pioneer stereo and speakers, so at least you’re spared listening to Elvis on the crackly original AM/FM radio. And it now has bluetooth and Aux-in!
However, the real joy of The Baron is the attention it gets. It seems everyone has a LeBaron story they want to share. People will stop you at pedestrian crossings, parking lots, and even while driving to share their memories. Plus, it’ll make you stand out as someone with a sense of fun who doesn’t take themselves too seriously. What kind of person would drive a LeBaron by choice? Someone that people want to know and be around, that’s who.
