Vehicle description
1986 CHEVY C20 SILVERADO 3/4 TON CREW CAB LONGBED 2WD
Nice "86 crew cab chevy. Clean truck that was owned by an older gentleman for a long time. It was used to haul a camper and was parked indoors at least part of it"s life. I don"t know the entire history of the truck but the body is nice and it runs perfect. The mileage on the odometer is 79k. I"m not sure if that is original. The VIN check on this truck is ambiguous and hard to get an idea of the actual mileage since they are only 5 digit. The mileage was reported as 20,500 in 1995, the 121,00 two months later. Someone I think just guessed that the odometer had rolled over once and entered it as 121k. I"m not sure but it very well could be 179k total miles. Clear title, no liens. I called the DMV to double check. The build sheet is still in the glovebox and it"s pictured. I can help arrange shipping if needed. I have more pics I can send with undercarriage and floor pics.
MECHANICAL
This truck has the 454 v8 with automatic turbo-400 transmission and posi traction rearend. The truck has an extra transmission cooler added and I"m sure it was designed for towing. It has the EQ hitch. It does not, and has never had a fifth wheel or gooseneck in the bed. The engine starts up and runs really nice. No smoke or blowby. Good oil pressure. No ticks or rattles. No leaks of any concern. It has a nice sounding dual exhaust that sounds like flowmasters but I"m not sure if they are. The transmission shifts perfect. Brakes work like they should. Parking brake, horn, gauges, lights, and all power windows work. Cold A/C also. Heater works and all the selectors for defrost or heat. The heater fan only works on low. That"s most likely the switch, which is cheap and easy to replace. The front tires are worn a little funny so I would recommend it gets aligned. It drives fine but I only drove it about 50mph because there was snowpack on the road when I drove it. Frontend feels tight. New front sway bar bushings. The rear tires are good. Hubcaps are not original and not included. They are from an older gm pickup. Original replacements are pretty cheap and easy to find if you want to stick with the factory look. Overall the truck is very mechanically sound and needs very little.
BODY
The body on the truck is in nice shape, especially for an unrestored 1986 that is 25 years old. It is very straight with exception of the tailgate. Another perfect tailgate is included. The paint is ok, but has the usual chips and wear. You can see from the pics that it is definitely usable as-is. It would look sweet as a 4x4 conversion, lowered with different rims, or whatever you choose. One cab corner has rust starting in about a 3/4"x3/4" spot. The rest of the truck is dry and nice. Floorpans, other cabcorner, jams, sills, frame, floor supports, etc. are dry and nice. The drivers front door had a repair at some point. Minor filler there. No other filler showing or any other signs of body repair. I have a digital paint thickness meter and I checked it all out. Someone sprayed rhino lining on the front that you can see, I guess to protect from chips. I"ve read there are methods to remove it without damaging the white paint. A bug deflector would hide the top at least. The carpet was removed at some point and also sprayed with rhinoliner. I"ve seen the floors from underneath and have pics, but you can see the whole floor from above now and no rust. All the windows roll up down but the drivers is a little slower. All doors, tailgate, and hood operate as they should. I have a perfect tailgate that I will include also. The one on the truck functions fine but is bent up a bit. No rust in the box floor. Never had a gooseneck or fifth wheel hitch. Box or inner box wheelwells aren"t beat up. Overall, the body is very sound for a 73-87 gm pickup
INTERIOR
The interior is in decent condition. It needs some work but is usable as is. Both seats have wear you can see in the pics. There is no carpet. The floor has been rhino-lined. The door panels and visors are in decent condition. Dash has the usual crack in it. I believe everything for these trucks is reproduced now and probably pretty affordable. The original radio has been replaced with an aftermarket tape deck. It"s good, in my opinion, that the dash hasn"t been cut. Everything works in the truck except the high setting on the heater fan. The truck was a grandpa truck at least part of the time, and it shows. The doors shut nice and tight. It looks like the truck was used but not abused.
Overall
This is a tight and sound truck that looks and runs nice. Not perfect or restored but with an alignment and a couple tires, I"d feel fine driving it anywhere. Sold as-is.
