“This 500SL is 100% original mechanically, aside from overhauled brakes, seals, gaskets, hoses, battery, etc. It had a full service including a new timing chain, guides, rails, tensioner, etc, All fluids were exchanged, new battery, spark plugs, filters, 4 wheel alignment.Concerns: Mercedes decklid star emblem was removed during a cut and buff, I stepped on it and it’s slightly out of shape. A new one should arrive by the time you read this! Smog pump belt has been removed. Why? Because it’s not needed, and has no adverse effects. Paint chip (2) on top of original brass radiator. Actually in the black paint of the radiator, near the upper radiator outlet. The rear bumper may appear to have a dent in the middle, it does not...it’s the way the rubber has aged.” |

About this vehicle This 1985 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is an original. The owner has had it for 2 years. The vehicle is drivable and is mainly used for weekend drives. Vehicle Details Attention eBay! This is a European VIN# car. The Vin # is WDB1070461A023658 This 500SL is truly a fantastic piece. This car was imported into the US in 1985 and has had only one owner besides myself since new. Signal Red Palomino Interior Investment Quality These 500SL’s are really hard to find. They were never available in the United States. They were outlawed for several reasons. The 5.0 V8 didn’t not meet emissions standards, the headlights and bumpers didn’t meet DOT standards. They had no airbags. They have 1 more horsepower than the 560SL out of a smaller, much more responsive engine. They look a ton better with the “batwing”, the short, attractive bumpers, the Euro headlights and the OEM Bundt/Fuchs wheels. These cars are much more sought after than a comparable 560SL, provided they have pedigree, and documentation, 50 State emissions, etc. There is a lot of variables, but I can say most of the 500SL’s I come across are fixed wrecks coming from the Netherlands, etc. The earlier the car was imported, the more valuable it is, because of traceability. This 500SL is 100% original. The original Bundt wheels are in great shape, This car is all original body panels, paint, top, interior, etc. this car only has 39,000 KM on it, It has its original speedometer that was refaced with a US face, but they never re-geared it, so don’t trust the speedometer, or odometer or you’ll be behind traffic! I was just going to put a US speedometer head on it, but never did. The paint on the car is stellar, it does not get any better. The Palomino interior is basically perfect as well! No dash cracks, beautiful veneers! No wear in the drivers bolster. The original convertible top is super nice as well. This car spent most of its life in Phoenix! Zero rust, garage kept showpiece! The car is fully documented from import paperwork, to original hang tags, maintenance book that is stamped, service records they show a linear aggregation of miles. Perfect carfax and auto check!
