Vehicle description
Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this 1985 BMW 535i with a turbocharged LS making 544rwhp hooked to a Tremec T56 6-speed manual! The 535i model was released in 1984 and featured a 3.5L inline 6-cylinder which was the second most powerful engine offered in the 5-Series behind the M5. That would all change once BMW tuners Todd DeHate and John Sweeney of Turbo Charging Dynamics purchased the car in 2009. TCD was started by Todd and John in 2000 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with the focus on building and tuning 1980"s BMWs.
This 535i is finished in Bahama Beige over a Nutria leather interior. It was sold new in California, and it remained a California car with the original owner through the spring of 2005 when it was sold on 4/26/2005 to its 2nd owner from Texas with a reported 119,766 miles. On 8/11/2009 TCD purchased the car and shipped it to their shop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to be built into a LS swapped turbocharged sleeper. On 3/7/2020 it was acquired by its 4th owner from Metamora, Michigan.
TCD started the engine build with a gen 3 aluminum LS block de-stroked to 313ci or 5.1L. It features 3.902" forged 9.5CR pistons, custom ground Comp Cam with a 271/279 duration intended for turbo applications, LS6 intake manifold, GTO oil pan, LS2 oil pump, LS2 timing chain, ARP head studs, CTS-V exhaust manifolds, Comp turbo 72/79 T04S, 44mm Tial wastegate, 3" exhaust with a Borla muffler, and a Griffin aluminum radiator with aluminum piping 18" Spal electric fan. The platform dyno"d at 544hp and 512 lb. ft. of torque. at 10psi of boost.
The transmission is a Tremec T56 6-speed manual with a Clutchmasters 12" single mass steel flywheel, an 12" organic clutch kit with a Hurst shifter. Also incorporated are stainless steel clutch slave lines. The driveshaft is a single piece steel driveshaft with Spicer u-joints routed to a 3.73 LSD rear end. The suspension consists of Bilstein sport struts and shocks, SPAX springs, 22/16 adjustable sway bars and adjustable rear subframe. It rides on 17" polished style 5 ET20 wheels with Hankook Ventus R-S3 tires sized 235/45 in front and 245/40 in the rear.
The Nutria colored interior features Recaro leather trimmed seats with Stewart Warner and Autometer gauges, a Hurst shifter, and a Clarion stereo head-unit. All the power options work including the windows and 2-position sunroof. The speedometer and odometer are not hooked up and therefore the true exact mileage of the car is unknown, and the car will be sold with this fully disclosed. The last mileage reported on the Carfax is 135,867 in 2008 and TCD drove the for nearly a decade since completing it and the Michigan owner has driven it roughly 3,000 miles since buying it on 3/7/2020.
Included with the sale are several extra parts including a new Nutria colored dashboard as the original in the car is cracked in multiple places, a quick ratio M5 steering box, rear axle assemblies, spare brake/clutch arm, and BBS rear spoiler. Outside of the speedometer/odometer in-op, the idle tune needs to be recalibrated as the cold start enrichment is high. Once warmed the car idles at roughly 900rpm.
Do not miss this opportunity to acquire the ultimate sleeper built by a known BMW specialist that is essentially turnkey with included spare parts. Sold as-is with no warranty expressed or implied. Michigan residents subject to 6% sales tax. I can also assist with shipping as I have relationships with the best haulers in the business.
