I bought the new look 86-91 SEC OEM wheels/ Michelin's while excited to match my dark blue 87 SEC I had 25 yrs ago b4 I knew about cancelled surgeries! Exterior I bought this sharp 1984 "Deep Blue" (DB900 paint code) MBZ 500 SEC in Jan 2020 after retiring early last yr (need both knees replaced & 1 ankle surgery) BUT, I was kinda bored and had afew months b4 the ankle then months b4 the 1st knee, love cars, & got a "wild hair" for an SEC after running into a friend/Mercedes Collector and he was in an amazing Black 560 AMG SEC Replica. I took it as a sign to buy an SEC, seeing "Mercedes Flagship" SEC 81-91, a stunning 2 door big-bodied pillar-less coupe is a very rare treat! Couldn't afford any he was selling but he gave me some good leads & in short time I found this "Deep Blue" (color code DB900) 1984 500 (5.0) SEC that was nearly identical (small cosmetic differences) to the dark blue 1987 560 (5.5) SEC that I had in the mid-90's, 25 yrs ago, but family issues forced the sale of that stylish and elegant dark blue SEC that I drove with a smile for over 2 years. Ever since thinking "someday". Lesson learned I found exact SEC I wanted but with my knees & 3 surgeries in the balance - now delayed by my imsurance until Covid slows. .so I jumped the gun should have waited, it's a car I love but I cant get in & out easily or without pain & dont want to ruin the drivers seat (near perfect INT) by sliding in & out. And it was selfish of me to go against wifes wishes and now oddly as my right knee got much worse can only get in & out of wife's mid size SUV so i driving that and bought her a newer car thats she wanted for years (karma). Then b4 I knew about delays, within 1st month I spent over $1800 on 4 near-new (86-91 SEC) OEM 15" wheels (real MBZ not cheap fakes) & 4 NEW 15" Michelin's to make the car 99% identical to my SEC "back in the day" and haven't even put 500 miles on the car, now have it stored safely back of friends' custom car interior shop. Also b4 wheels and tires I took the car to a Mercedes Shop (all ex dealer mechanics including owner - a friend of my Interior shop friend) and had them check it out top to bottom. They recharged A.C. and replaced an electrical part to blower now blows cold, hard & quiet; changed oil/filter and did some other basic maintenance and minor improvements. I left it 3 days and the head mechanic said he believes some top-end work had been done to the SEC caise he hears no high-miles head noise & it runs like an 80,000 Benz 5.0 (not near a nice 166k car). Also has semi-custom exhaust which gives it a nice purr (nothing obnoxious) which was installed by prior owner (had 10 years and 30k miles, a MBZ expert & retired Mechanical Engineer) along a long list of updates & expensive fixes he did cause he said he cares does what it needs, was updating to give to son but he said xxx "kids" - he wanted a Kia maybe, so selling to me (see more under engine/drivetrain). BUT WAIT SORRY I'm a writer (lots of sitting), everything works including sunroof, p/w, p/seats, even heated seats, A.C. recharged & strong blower. Everything but little dash clock, 1 seatbelt extender & antenna (reception fine didnt notice). Also last owner said BECKER radio (in trunk pic w/car) didn't work and he and prior owner (friend or relative) did lots of roundtrip driving to Florida annually in the SEC so they put an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player in car (NO alterations dash perfect fix BECKER will go right back in) so they could listen to favorite CD's on long road trips to FL and other points South & West (those last 2 owners garaged or good weather & think b4 them 2nd owner lived in FL & U can tell good MBZ owners by shape it's in! SO SELLING REASONABLE DEAL NOT GIVING IT AWAY BUT IF YOU FOLLOW OR CHECK NADAGUIDE.COM I AM LETTING GO FOR A GOOD-DEAL LESS THAT "LOW RETAIL PRICE" FOR AN 84 500 SEC BUT THAT NUMBER DOES NOT COUNT EURO-HEADLIGHTS (say low value $1500), NICE & "REAL" 15" (86-91 OEM) SEC WHEELS & FOUR NEW MICHELIN's ($1800), AND AN INTERIOR THAT LOOKS NEAR-NEW VALUED $3500-4000. A BEAUTY & GREAT RUNNER W/ JUST UNDER 166K MILES RUNS LIKE HALF THAT - BUT PRICED TO SELL THIS GREAT EXAMPLE OF A CLASSIC SEC, NOT PERFECT BUT ALMOST! ! I HAD TO BUY THIS CAR IT TOOK ME BACK TO MY LATE 30's STUNNING BLUE SEC & NO-SHIT SHE RUNS LIKE A WOLF IN A VIXEN's CLOTHING. LAST OWNER (MBZ CLASSIC EXPERT) HAD THE FOLLOWING DONE: 137k-141k miles - new shocks new injectors; new flex discs; Rebuilt steering box; ball joints; tie rod ends; new bushings. At 152,200 miles REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND NEW TRANS MOUNT; at around 155K miles: new fuel pump; Rebuilt electronic distributor, other stuff he did. WHEN TALKING NICE CLASSIC MERCEDES, CARS OF "MBZ PEOPLE", CLUB MEMBERS, ETC TOOK CARE OF/ OR HAD TAKEN CARE OF WHICH IS REFLECTED IN THE CONDITION - AND WITH PRESENCE OF - BOOKS TOOL KIT MEDICAL KIT SPARE SO WITH ALL DUE RESPECT IF YOU DON'T HAVE A GREAT NEAR TOP EBAY RATING OR HAVE NOT SPENT AT LEAST $4999 ON A VEHICLE OR ANYTHING ON EBAY YOUR BID WILL BE DISQUALIFIED - UNLESS YOU MESSAGE ME FIRST & I AGREE YOU CAN BID BASED ON OUR MESSAGES. Interior AMAZING INTERIOR VERY WELL MAINTAINED LOOKS GREAT. I actually picked this SEC over 1 with lesser miles because (Blue/Gray and) it was obviously well cared for and sheltered. THE SPECTACULAR GREY INTERIOR (worth atleast $3500 "itself" per a friend who owns a custom auto interior shop near me, combined with the SHARP DEEP BLUE (DB900) AND THE EXTREMELY RARE EURO HEADLIGHTS OFTEN SEEN ON EBAY USED AT $1500-$2000 FOR NICE COMPLETE PAIR (so going low there are $4000 in parts value between h'lite & int)! BUT CAR TOO NICE TO BREAK UP FOR $$$$ can't do that to my fav model on earth! SELLING WITH OEM 14 INCH BUNDT WHEELS & NEAR NEW TIRES SEEN IN THE BUNDT WHEEL PIC (ALL 4 WHEELS/TIRES IN GREAT SHAPE IDENTICAL TO THAT ONE). ADDITIONALLY PERFECT DASH WITH NO CRACKS/ISSUES, THE WOOD TRIM EXCELLENT EXCEPT AFEW TINY LINES ON CENTER CONSOLE PIECE. ONLY issue is pass side seatbelt server does not always work, antenna doesn't work & tiny dash clock OTHERWISE GREAT LOOK & AS SAID EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS GREAT EVEN THE HEATED SEATS! ALSO, ALL P/W's, POWER SEATS, SUNROOF PERFECT W/ NO LEAKS, AC RECHARGED/BLOWER CIRCUIT REPLACED ($600 INSTALLED) AND SPOT-ON - NEEDED AC IN FL ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR even though I hardly got to drive it but made it nice to my taste! Again original BECKER OEM CASSETTE STEREO comes with car (see radio top of trunk pic) don't think it works but orig parts like a BECKER, TOOL KIT, MEDICAL KIT, BOOKS & RECORDS (see last pic under other) is a "BIG TELL" this Mercedes was babied! Engine The engine bay & external areas of the engine are neat, clean and in excellent condition from top to bottom including the hood liner. The engine and complete drivetrain runs smooth & strong again like half the miles per my german MBZ EXPERT mechanic with no leaks! And ORIGINAL MATS IN TRUNK COME WITH CAR BUT NOT REALLY IN USEABLE CONDITION unless u get them super-cleaned? I BOUGHT NEW MATS OEM KNOCK-OFFS CAN'T FIND GRAY OEM's ANY WHERE (except Palamino?). Underneath the trunk in the spare tire area (shockingly clean and original looking as if it was the spare tire area of a new car, well kept, rust free (37 years old)! When looking at small details and things that i deem important as "original" SEC more obvious well cared for - The spare tire & Jack looks like they never had even been moved, and key to me OEM MERCEDES TOOL KIT IS PRESENT, COMPLETE, LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN USED SPARINGLY AND NEATLY ROLLED UP IN ITS RED TOOL SACK (lower left trunk pic). Last owner - a self described MBZ CLASSIC (3) OWNER & LOVER replaced BECKER radio/ cassette with an aftermarket (NO ALTERATIONS TO DASH!) player to have stereo & "CD capability" for his long trips to Florida & elsewhere. It sounds good works fine but fix BECKER or at "Best Buy" $150 installed get Kenwood or whatever with CD, bluetooth & Spodify, etc, modern plugs and connections for phone & devices which I was gonna do. THIS SEC IN GREAT SHAPE, RUNS GREAT AND EVERYTHING* WORKS SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOUT CURRENT/ PAST OWNERS AND WITH THIS SEC IT IS PRETTY OBVIOUS!
