Here is a rare opportunity to purchase a like-new 1984 Mercedes 300SD turbodiesel. This W126 chassis Benz has only 31k original, 1 owner miles. Car is probably as close to a new W126 diesel as you will find. The car was purchased new at Prestige Motors back in 1984 here in Kansas City. The car was parked in a climate controlled garage in 2003 until this past October. To put the car back into service, the following were done:
-Fuel tank drained, flushed and inspected for corrosion. (None found) -Air filter and pre and main fuel filters replaced. -Oil and filter changed. -Engine mounts replaced -Transmission fluid, filter and pan gasket replaced -Underhood insulation replaced -Front and rear brake pads and rotors replaced -Dash light rheostat replaced -Front lower ball joints replaced. -Front wheel bearings repacked. -Power antenna grommet replaced. -A/C system was converted from R12 to R134a. -Cooling system flushed. -Right rear power window regulator slider replaced. -New Michelin tires mounted and balanced -New Interstate battery -Rear differential fluid changed. -Brake fluid flushed.
The car runs and drives like a new one. It shifts very smooth unlike higher mileage diesels. Starts right up after the glow plugs cycle, even on the coldest mornings. Engine is leak free. Rear differential has some very slight seepage. Undercarriage has zero rust. No wrecks and paint is original. There are a couple of very slight paint chips I have tried to show in the pics. The exterior is in amazing condition and the paint was recently professionally polished along with all of the chrome highlights and trim.
On the interior, the wood dash trim to the right of the glove box is starting to lift up some. None of the wood trim on the interior is cracked and I have not tried regluing these lifted pieces in fear of damaging them. I will leave that to the new owner for repair. The remainder of the interior is perfect. No dash cracks, no headliner stains, worn spots on seat bolsters etc. . Even the cargo nets on the backs of the front seats are intact and not all stretched out. Original first aid kit is intact and in its compartment in the rear deck. The only accessory that does not work is the clock in the instrument cluster. Everything else works, including the original Becker radio. The hvac system works like it should and the center vents operate properly when required.
The car goes down the road like a new one should. These models are not a power house, so do not expect record breaking 0-60mph times! It will cruise at 80mph just fine once it gets there and with good mpgs to boot. Cruise control works as intended. Car has no shakes, funny vibrations or noises. It is very tight. Comes with original owners manuals and sleeve along with the 3 factory keys. It is a non-smoker"s car.
You will be hard pressed to find a nicer, lower mileage 300SD than this one. It is a show quality car that any MB enthusiast would be proud to drive and display. Car is located in Kansas City and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. Fly in and drive it home!
