Vehicle description

For sale is a 1984 MAN/VW German fire dept. 4 WD Rescue Truck. Vehicle is all original with only 10700 miles. There is a cab with seating for 2 additional passengers on a bench seat and a single drivers seat with hydraulic suspension. European VIN # WVM 5650004G031290 The company MAN traces its founding back to the year 1758 as an ironworks operation. MAN celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2008. The company engineers were working with Rudolf Diesel in the development of the first Diesel engine! Its primary output now is for the automotive industry, particularly heavy trucks. MAN is further known in the US for its Diesel engines for ship propulsion. In 1984, the year this truck was produced VW had a minority interest in the MAN company. In 2011 Volkswagen acquired a majority of share capital of MAN and with the combination of MAN and SCANIA created Europe"s largest truck-maker. MAN is today a multinational industrial complex with an annual revenue of over US $ 20 billion. This truck has a total length of 22". It is powered by a 5.6 Liter inline 6 Diesel engine with 5 speed manual transmission and permanent 4 wheel drive. A governor limits the top RPM in top gear and this way the speed limit to about 55 MPH. Differential brakes on all 4 wheels. 10 ton hydraulic winch with 100" of steel cable mounted on the front bumper with the wind-up spool above the rear axle. Light mast in the rear manually operated with a crank extending the mast up to a height of 15" with 2 - 1000 Watt lights powered by its own built-in generator. Access to the fully enclosed box of the truck is via 7 aluminum shutters. Reaching the different size aluminum sliders on ball-bearings is made easy by a fold-down platform on each side of the vehicle. Access to the engine is by folding the entire cab-section forward. The trucks electrical system is 24 Volt. The roof can be reached by a fold-out steel ladder. On the roof are two large aluminum storage boxes. European emergency blue lights and a very loud siren are still in working order. Built as a European truck, the fuel usage is about 20 MPG. The 4 single 22" X 11" wheels are shod with 12.5 R 20 Continental off-road type tires. The cab seats 3 people with the driver on a weight adjustable pneumatic cushioned fabric-covered seat and the two passengers on a fabric-covered bench seat. There is also a printle-type trailer hitch in the rear with full electrical hook-up. The uses for a top quality German built truck, definitely comparable to a Mercedes Unimog are multi-fold. From its original purpose as a rescue vehicle for municipalities to an go-anywhere all-terrain service truck or to convert to an ultimate expedition vehicle, the possibilities are endless! The original cost for this truck was about US $ 190000.00! This quality truck is an incredible find! Comparable Mercedes Unimog of the type 1500L are selling in the $ 40 to 50000.00 range, this truck can be bought for a lot less money! This truck has a clear Michigan title.
