For sale: Western survivor 1984 Chevy K-10 Scottsdale 4x4 SWB short box. 2 documented owners from 1984-2021. Sold new at T-W Chevrolet to an older guy from Butte, and never left southwestern Montana"s sagebrush and prickly pear cactus country. I purchased the truck recently from the 2nd owner, who owned it since 2010, when the original owner passed away. Ebay autocheck only goes back to 1994, but Carfax report is included and it goes all the way back to new(1984) and verifies 2 owner history. Correct original truck that"s never been lifted, wheeled, or modified. Documentation includes invoice, owners manual, service and towing instructions, brochures, etc. Original jack and tools still mounted under the hood as is the SPID tag. Has the desirable 3.08 gears so you can actually drive it at modern speeds. No reason it couldn"t be a great daily. Vintage Glasstite topper is included and it"s in good condition. Exterior: Original Indian Bronze paint is weathered to a nice patina. Straight overall, presents well. Does have some hail dings in the hood that are hard to see, and a dent/crease behind driver door that"s very noticeable. Inside of box is straight and clean, probably the nicest I"ve seen on one of these trucks. Very dry rig, I"d say 98 percent rust free with the only rust thru on the bottom of the rear wheel lips and a small blister at bottom rear of cab on passenger side(see Photobucket pics). Underside looks great, frame still shows the factory paint; While the truck was never subjected to salted roads, the body lip behind the rear wheels holds dirt/mud that plugs the drain hole and draws moisture. South Central MT is arid country, and trucks typically survive pretty well here. Chrome/stainless is bright and not pitted. Glass is good and windshield is new. Passenger side mirror glass is cracked. Underside has light surface discoloration on frame and bare metal components, but of course we don"t see frame rot here out west. You can still see the factory paint on the frame. Period Glasstite topper is in good condition with no damage. Check the detail pics in the referenced Photobucket album below.
Interior: Original and presentable. Clean and no rodents or smells. Dash has cracks under the cover. Original seat upholstery has a few tears under the cover, (see linked album below for pics without cover) and driver armrest has a tear as shown. I believe everything works - lights, parking brake, wipers, heater, radio, and gauges. Chrome/stainless not pitted. There are 4 holes drilled for a gun rack above and below back window. Clean, tight driver truck that"s ready to use as is.
Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out fine. Truck has a nice tight original feel - it was well maintained and it shows. Original 305 4bbl runs smooth with no noises or smoke(other than puff at startup from valve seals). Really strong for a 305. Trans shifts fine and power steering feels tight. I believe everything works - lights, wipers, heater, gauges - even the parking brake. Per previous owner both fuel tanks work and gauge works on both. I"ve only used one tank. Has the desirable 3.08 gears so you can actually drive it at modern highway speeds, and still plenty of low-end grunt. Hubs turn in freely and 4x4 works in high and low range. Does have a fluid leak at the transfer case that will leave a spot on the floor. As with any older vehicle, it will need maintenance and repairs along the way. If you live in a state with very strict vehicle inspections, they will no doubt find something for you to fix, so expect that. Also I can"t guarantee this truck will pass California smog, we have no inspections here. These trucks are noted for reliability and build quality, and are fairly simple to work on with good parts availability.
