Vehicle description
1983 Jeep CJ7 Laredo.
This Jeep pegs out the AutoCheck score! Very nice original paint, excellent interior and almost completely original. Engine runs very strong (does not burn oil and no obvious leaks) and transmission shifts excellent. The automatic transmission is very desirable in these CJs! Tires are in like new condition. The Jeep runs excellent, does not overheat and has no significant notable issues.
The Jeep has approximately 89k miles. I was told by the previous owner that at 87k miles the temperature and fuel gauges failed to work so the speedometer cluster was replaced. Unfortunately, the previous owner misplaced the speedometer cluster. The new aftermarket cluster shows 1,654miles. I very strongly believe the mileage to be accurate given the condition of the exterior, engine compartment, and interior (and the AutoCheck does not show anything to discount this mileage). It would be easy to source an OEM speedometer cluster, sync the mileage and install.
Soft top and doors are in decent condition. Very presentable as-is, but I"d replace it down the road. All of the OEM carpet is in the Jeep and in really nice shape. I"ve taken a ton of photos of the Jeep so I"ll let the photos speak for the condition inside and out.
No rot anywhere on the Jeep. The frame is as solid as they come. The floors are very good, but do show minor surface rust in a couple areas. The passenger floor had a leaky heater core which is why it shows the most surface rust. But rest assured there is no metal that needs replacing as the entire Jeep is very solid.
The Jeep has a couple of very minor known issues. The steering wheel has a slight "rub" when you drive it. It turns freely, but it feels like there is plastic on plastic rubbing. Steering is tight and there"s nothing wrong with the column, so I imagine a slight adjustment would fix the issue. The OEM clock does not work. Oil pressure gauge is aftermarket, but works excellent. The OEM roll bar pad is still on the roll bar, but passenger side vertical zipper is acting up. They can likely be finessed back in to place so they mesh good. I don"t have the time or patience to mess with them. AC ducts blow, but not cold. . I don"t think the compressor is turning on.
If you"re looking for a very nice, turn-key, mostly original CJ7 Laredo, this fits the bill. Very reasonably offered at $17,500. As with any Jeep of this vintage, I"m sure there"s something in the details that I"m missing so expect a possible (but minor, if any) surprise. I"ve done my best to accurately describe this Jeep inside and out and with very minimal work you"ll have a very nice CJ at a great price!
