Vehicle description
1983 Scrambler CJ-8 needs a complete restoration. The frame is rotting away and needs to be replaced. The body could be saved, but it needs serious floor pan work. I replaced the windshield glass and steel frame about 3 years ago and the cowl underneath it looked great. The doors don"t sag, and the quarter panels are still firmly attached. The front fenders, the hood and the grill are all solid. It was on the road until 2016, and has around 120,000 miles on it. It never plowed snow, it was never used off road, and was never in an accident. It still riding on the stock wheels. I took the dash out when I replaced the windshield frame and started working on the floor pan, the original dash pad is in great condition, no cracks or sun damage. The Jeep comes with a bunch of extra used factory dash parts, and some new dash parts. The original door panels and console are all in good shape. It has tan leather Saab seats in it now, but comes with a set of used gray Wrangler seats. I was going to buy new covers, that match the interior, and use the Wrangler seats, but I didn"t get that far. I posted a photo of most of the extra parts in plastic bins. There"s a brand new gas tank and sending unit, and a used tank shield all cleaned up and repainted. Some new weather stripping for the hard doors. And two extra complete hard doors, and two tube frame half doors, all in good shape. There"s two extra used carbs, There"s 3 extra used, but complete stock distributers and extra ignition modules. One Mallory after market distributer and a Jacobs ignition module , but they were removed and replaced with stock parts, because welding on the Jeep can damage the Mallory. The fiberglass factory half top and the steel panel it sits on, behind the seats, the side mounted steps, the drive shaft, the roll bar and the spare tire frame that swings out are all in good shape, and I"m pretty sure they are all the factory bolt on parts exclusive to the CJ-8. The body is an extended CJ-7. So everything from the front bumper to the roll bar of a CJ-7 fits a CJ-8, except the soft top, it isn"t long enough to cover the extended body. I bring this up because the CJ-8 is rare, but most of it"s parts (driveline, brakes, suspension, front clip, and interior) are exactly the same parts used on the common CJ-7. Making them easy to find and inexpensive to buy. The 258 6 cylinder is stock, except for the stainless steel Borla exhaust manifold. It starts easy, runs smoothly, and doesn"t smoke or over heat. But will drip oil on the driveway the minute after you think you fixed it. I blame Jeep/ AMC for the drips by maybe it"s me. The alternator charges, all the electrical parts work, the Automatic trans shifts, power steering box was replace and the power brakes work . Anyone that"s been looking for a Scrambler CJ-8 knows they"re either hard to find or hard to afford. I"m selling it because I don"t have the time to complete it.
