Vehicle description
1983 Ferrari 400i Fuel Injected Automatic
VIN: ZFFEB06B000044547 Chassis: 44547
This 1984 Ferrari 400i that received a recent cosmetic refurbishment in 2017, and a full $16k major engine service in 2019. The car was reportedly delivered to the original owner in France and imported into the US in 1985. It was acquired by the second owner in 2003, and I purchased this 2+2 coupe in April 2017 with the intention of restoring it. The Cromodora wheels were refinished, and the front seats were refurbished. The 4.8-liter V-12 starts and runs well and recently received replacement fuel pumps and coil packs in 2018. After purchase, I decided to strip the car to bare metal and repaint it in the original Pozzi Blue. The work was completed in summer 2017 at a cost of over $10k. The Pininfarina designed body panels are straight, and the car is and was garaged by ourselves and the previous owner. Although sources vary, around 1,300 examples of the 400i were produced, and the car was never officially imported into the US. An update in late 1982 saw improvements in engine performance, a revised interior, and exterior features like body-colored vents on the engine hood, new side mirrors, exposed fog lamps in the front grille, and a body-colored tail panel. The metric sized Cromodora wheels were recently refinished and new tires were added in rear. Inside, the front seats were refurbished during our ownership with new Beige leather sourced from Connolly. The driver-side seat hinge cover is not present, and the driver-side window was not operating so we received a new window motor and regulator, replaced them and lubricated the track. The area over the center console has loose leather that can be stretched and pulled, and the radio is no longer with the car. The interior is missing one of the air vents and the fog lamp button in the center console is not functioning. Veglia Borletti gauges and the remaining switchgear remain in place, and the 53k indicated kilometers are accurate. The 4.8-liter V-12 features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection as opposed to the earlier carbureted 400, and produced 315 hp when new. The motor is paired to a stock Turbo-Hydromatic 3-speed automatic transmission. Within the last year, we have has replaced the fuel pumps, coil packs, and performed some electrical troubleshooting. The engine just this year, 2019, received a full $12k major service and now runs out excellent. Compression figures are as follows in Feb 2019 after the major service completed showed 165, 165, 170, 166, 170, 167, 175, 169, 170, 175, 170, and 175 psi in cylinders 1-12, respectively. The Ansa exhaust system shows some corrosion on the tailpipes and is said to be the only modification to the car. Recent cosmetic restoration records, and the $12k full engine service completed in early 2019 go with the car. Passed down from previous owners is the cars original owner’s book and manuals, and pouch.
This is a Low original mileage 400i, the Transmission shifts well and recent transmission fluid change. 400"s do not have belts and thus are not prone to the "belt service" required every 4-5 years or 10-15k miles as mythology goes .
Comes with 2 keys, books and manuals, jack and full complete spare as well as a box of spare parts / replacement pieces.
Owned for the last 13 years, prior ownership was for 19 years. Only 2 owners.
With pleasure in offering you this opportunity to acquire this beautiful Ferrari 400i. With only 32973 miles (converted from KMs) from new this car benefits from the sorted fuel injection and automatic transmission. The sound bodywork in lovely Pozzi blue, chassis and original Beige Tan leather upholstery complement the well-maintained technical features of this car, making it an absolute pleasure to drive. We received many documents supporting its history with prior owner, not including the recent $12k full service which of course goes along with the records.
This 400i comes with the renowned V12 Ferrari sound through the Ansa Exhaust System! The interior of the car is all original with exception of the two front seats being recovered, and in lovely condition, see photos. The driver seat does not show any excessive creasing or wear with absolutely no tears or damage. The leather is still very soft and supple with no dye work! All of the carpets and dash are all original and show very well with no damage or seam separation.
This 400i starts up and idles and does not smoke under start up or acceleration. AC/Heat Vents were broken and not installed currently, a used set will go with the car for fitment.
The car has new correct factory Michelin TRX tires and rides beautifully.
All of the electronics are operating including the pop up headlights, exterior lights, interior lights, power antenna, all dash lights and gauges OK. The mirrors, windows, trunk and front bonnet release buttons are also functioning, the passenger front bonnet latch sometimes sticks and was just lubricated.
There is no rust on the car and the undercarriage is all original and untouched, see photos.
The car presents well and the depth of the recent respray in original Pozzi is so deep and gorgeous, it draws crowds! The paint job alone cost $10k! This is a very original and unmolested 400i that is rarely seen in this well maintained condition. Accompanied with the sale of this car are the original Ferrari books, the original Ferrari keys, the original jack and spare.
