Vehicle description
Rare, 1983 model year DeLorean DMC-12. Original owner took delivery from DeLorean receivership on Thanksgiving weekend, 1982. It was a daily driver for around 10 years until the owner moved to Costa Rica, where he lived, estranged from his family, until his death in 2007. During that time, it was thought sold or missing until it was discovered in a storage facility in Austin, Texas.
The current owner (the original owner"s son), paid around $6,000 to have it made road-worthy before driving it back to his home in California. The car is in original-spec condition. Normal wear on the leather, no tears or rips. The brushed stainless steel finish is clean of dents and dings, but does sport light scratches from normal use. Car will ship with original DMC registration/User manual wallet. The tool kit is in its proper place in front of the boot.
The only modifications to this car are safety-related. . namely, the braided stainless steel fuel lines (the original rubber ones tended to crack and leak onto the ignition wires and start engine fires) and the leather-wrapped binnacle.
Tires, brakes, coolant lines, ignition components, fuel lines and related components are all new as of June, 2021. The only noticeable damage to the body is a small area on the rear louvers (engine cover) where the finish is cracked and small areas on the rubber facias (front and rear) where the silver paint is beginning to peel with age. (Call it patina).
During the current registrant"s stewardship, it has only been driven to and from car shows (multi-award winner) and special events. The owner now feels it"s time to let someone else enjoy DeLorean ownership. Since April, 2021, nearly $11,000 has been spent at DMC West in Huntington Beach, CA to get this car ready for a new owner. Receipts are are available in PDF form upon request by interested parties.
Air-conditioning has a fresh charge and blows quite cold.
A prospective bidder asked for a video showing that the car actually ran. .
